I was trying to track down when Freund hit the bar against West Ham... And came across what must be the most shocking spurs team this century - that really shows just how far we have progressed...

West Ham United: Hislop, Winterburn, Schemmel, Dailly, S.Pearce, Tihinen, Cole, Carrick, Lampard, Di Canio, Kanoute

Tottenham: Walker, Clemence, Campbell, Docherty, King, Perry, Freund, Leonhardsen, Anderton, Rebrov, Booth

subs:
83 mins - (Spurs) McEwan and Young on for Rebrov and Clemence (what a game changing attacking sub!)

I think this is when George Graham was sacked and Pleat was in charge... We had signed Andy Booth as an emergency striker.. And we were even trying Gary Doherty up front!! Think we are playing 5-3-2.... 0-0 bore draw.. Hoddle definitely improved things and injected some much needed flair... But shows you just how far we have come under Levy in the last decade...

any other worst spurs teams this millenium out there?
bit embarrassing to see the attacking flair in the west ham team by comparison - but nice to see how the two teams have changed over the recent years...

also anyone know which game Freund did hit the bar??

I'm fairly certain it was in the 1-0 win at WHL in the 00/01 season.

Funny to think HR was in charge of them at the time with players such as Lampard, Carrick, Cole etc.

Cool, thanks for that! And these line ups do demonstrate redknapps attacking flair! Gearge graham... What on earth was lord sugar thinking!!!

I went to a game at the lane that year with fenn and docherty up front. Shows how far we have come.

I think this was the worst game I ever went to? I think that we won 1-0 and West Ham hit the bar in the 80th min with their first shot on goal.

Dreadful. Ginola was the only bright spark during those dreadful years.

Agreed to a point, tho i loved Freund - limited as he was his work rate and commitment won me and many others over

I would describe Perry and Leonhardsen as solid - if i'm being generous. Decent pro's but players of this ilk are rarely anywhere near our team at present

But the rest - OMG! Always felt Ian, Ian Ian, Ian Ian was overated and Clem, Ginger Pele and Booth were very poor

McEwen is the worst pro footballer i have ever seen, given that i never saw, and have only heard, of the Ally Dia debacle

Perhaps you didn't go to the home 0-0's vs Boro and Soton around this time (00/01)

Sleep and/or vomit inducing tedious crap served up by GG

(I'm not sure if anyone did really fall asleep tho, unlike in 03/04 when some bloke fell asleep in the East Stand during a belting 0-0 with Boro )

Tells you how good king was, even with a side like that we managed to keep a clean sheet with him in the team. That west ham front 5 wasn't too shabby either.

I really liked Leo. He was the only one scoring our goals for a while. I think I remember he scored like 5 in 7. I thought he was a useful little player.

Oh how I remember Neale Fenn! Aren't I right in saying that this marvellous little striker never once scored for us??

This thread just reminded me of how excited I was when I saw we'd signed Leonhardsen, I thought he'd be the one to make us climb the table

Hoddle should get some praise for restoring some pride in the team, and bringing in some quality (older) players and getting us playing the right way... In November 2001 - end of the same year as the team above this was the same fixture teams:

West Ham: James, Schemmel, Repka, Dailly, Minto, Sinclair, Lomas, Hutchison, Cole, Kitson, Defoe. Subs: Hislop, Foxe, Courtois, Moncur, Todorov.
Tottenham: Sullivan, Perry, King, Richards, Ziege, Poyet, Anderton, Freund, Davies, Ferdinand, Sheringham. Subs: Beasant, Bunjevcevic, Rebrov, Leonhardsen, Thelwell.

playing more of a 3-5-2 with Ziege and Davies as wing backs, Poyet and Anderton providing creativity and Sherringham dropping deep to thread play and link up with Ferdinand. What is Dave Beasant doing on our bench?? was he a coach under Hoddle and then we ran out of keepers!? I remember we played some good football at first under Hoddle before we ran out of steam...

Some will come into this thread, not recognise most of the names there and therefore fail to grasp just how squalid life as a Spurs fan was back then. Quite often a gutsy 2-1 defeat didn't leave me feeling depressed but slightly upbeat for the rest of the weekend. Couple that with it being the zenith of assnal's successes. FML.

I think I may have just found an even worse spurs side of the millennium...
Drum roll please....

Liverpool v Spurs, 22nd April, 2001
SUNDAY 22ND APRIL, 2001
LIVERPOOL 3 (1) TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 1 (1)

Spurs (4-3-2-1):- Sullivan; Carr, Thelwell, Gardner, Young; Davies (sub Piercy, 77), Sherwood, Clemence; Korsten, Leonhardsen; Doherty

Subs not used:- Walker; Hillier; Etherington, Ferguson

I think George graham was in charge for the 0-0 with west ham... Not sure if he still was for this finish...

Rebrov was never shit, the rest of the team around him was.

As I have said many times before, he was too good for the team.
Well said, mate!

In general, that is what I mean when you see good talents not succeed in a team. Also, you can have a really good defender in a team that are in the bottom of the table. It is all about the players around the talented player.
