At the start of the season if we had been offered 11th or 12th place and a League cup win would you have taken it ? Despite all our moans and groans since then I guess the answer is yes . Would it have still been yes if we had won the League Cup by beating say Villa and Portsmouth in the semis and final instead of our London friends ?

Like any fan, I always want to see the team I support finish as high as possible, but with a change in management midway through the season, to go and win the League Cup over Chelsea is still a very big achievement, So yes, I'm happy with the season, we have a another trophy in the cabinet and a place in the UEFA cup again next season, the only thing we will miss out on is extra money through league places.

Good question. The semi and final were 2 great occasions and silenced a lot of my Scummy mates. But we have had to put up with such crap outside of those 2 games that the answer for me is yes for this season but for next season no way.

Wouldn't have settled for it at the beginning of the season - but then I didn't know what was about to happen to BMJ.

As soon as Juande took over I would have happily settled for it.

A cup is great, but the League does not lie, we have gone backwards. After our summer transfer activity I did not expect us to finish in the top four or anywhere close, but if it had been said at the start of the season we would finish 11th or 12th I would have been shocked.

I thought we'd get 7th - so 12th and a League Cup makes me v.happy :)

next year though I want a lot higher in the league

I can see why you'd say so, what with Jolgate etc, but I'll take the cup win. A much more memorable way of qualifying for Europe than finishing 5th.

I agree. Nothing has ever touched me (except bomber's cat) in the way the Carling Cup run did. I know it sounds sad that the Carling Cup run is the best feeling I've ever got from football, but it's true.

Beating City away, at a time when they had a 100% home record, and we had 10 men for a fair chunk of the game.

Holding our own at the Emirates, missing out on a memorable win only to a late (and slightly dodgy) Walcott goal.

The anticipation of the 2nd leg, followed by the mauling we gave Arsenal at the Lane. The atmosphere, the shock... it was beautiful, and made even sweeter having made the long journey up, and even longer journey back after missing out at the same stage last year. Driving home after the match, and having to pinch myself every few minutes.

Then the final... against Chelsea - one of the best teams in the land. The belief we showed after going 1 behind. The fight. The spirit. The tears of joy (yeah, I'm a wimp). Beautiful... I couldn't have written the story any better myself.

I was hoping for so much more from our boys league wise... but I never expect to win a cup, and to taste victory like that... amazing.

well said Christophe :)

I tell you to beat City who'd won 11 staright home games in a row was amazing - to beat them with 10 men absolutely phenomenal - funny enough for all robbo's problems that was probably his finest hour (and a half) at Spurs

one save he made in particular - unbelievable

I was sooooooooooooooooooo proud of the team that night

I just kept waiting for City to equalise but they didn't

Trophies all the way, if we have a good few season from now on and finish in the top five or six for ten more years we'll all look back on the Carling Cup win and forget the league position. The role of honour is about the trophies you win not also rans in a league.

The Goat is wondering if fans of Everton, Newcastle or Derby think our season has been a disaster.
