I'll have a good w@nk if Xerdan Shaqiri was to ever sign for Spurs (below the age of 35) for the following reasons:
1. I've not had a (good) w@nk in ages
2. Xerdan is a great name. (Shaqiri less so).
3. He could convert our mediocre bunch of mid-tablers and give us some MF fire.

The fact that he will cost lots of money and would probably never dream of joining us in our current state means my chances of (1) are sadly, extremely low.

A brilliant player no one can deny that. But it doesn't matter who we have in midfield, its who is in front of them that is the problem. If Levy is going to consider spending big, I would want it to be on a striker.
Hell, maybe Chadli and Kane are going to split time up top.

It's Xherdan, not Xerdan. (To you and the the OP).

I'm Swiss and I think Shaqiri is overrated. When he plays for us he looks great (much like Dempsey with the USA or say Sigurdsson with Iceland, where they are the stars and focal points of the team). Get him away from that and he's nothing special. Thinks he is better than he is, too, and in a frustrating way...he tries to do everything by himself.

I hate Guardiola but I think he's right. Shaqiri is a incredibly gifted player on the ball but I don't think he has the game intelligence necessary for the highest levels of play.

Honestly if you guys would watch Shaqiri as much as I have, you'd probably come to the same conclusion. He's a shorter, stocky, Swiss Townsend. Would probably improve our team but not worth the money in my honest opinion. I'm also not a big fan of Depay and I'd much rather have Konoplyanka or Yarmolenko here, if possible.

About 4-5 years ago I was raving about this guy. Since then, watching a fair bit of Bayern play I have to say he hasn't quite kicked on to the level I thought he would. He seems a bit too desperate to impress at times coming off the bench and makes poor decisions. He's got serious talent, but has to apply himself better.

@Strikeb4ck Didn't see your post before replying, I wouldn't say he wouldn't improve us (though you see more of him play) but I agree that he needs to be more of a team player. Limited playing time at Bayern doesn't help though.

I think that there is the reason that he plays better for Switzerland than for Bayern other than the quality aspect. Like people have said, he makes poor decision and lacks intelligence because he comes off the bench and feels that he has 15-20 mins to set the world alight...however when he starts for Switzerland, he is under less pressure and performs better on the ball because if something doesn't come off after 5 mins, he has 85 to go, but if he has 15 mins, there is a lot of pressure for him to succeed...

There is no doubt that he would be a frequent starter in the side, so you could argue he may perform better?

Just my opinion anyways...not getting my hopes too high for it...

Seriously mate? He pisses on anything we have, in any position. I'd play him as no10, and I'm convinced he'd be fantistic signing, give the fans and more importantly the players a huge lift.

You'd play him in the No.10 role ahead of Kane?

He is of the inverted attacking midfielder mold yes, but he possesses abilities our other players of his ilk do not have, such as the determination, pace, and outstanding quality to not only get the job done, but more importantly for us cause disorganization among defenses, which is really why so many pander for width.

As mad as it sounds I'd prefer Kono because while being inverted he does provide considerable width (and also don't want to get my hopes up for Shaqiri, while Kono is realistic).

If you're hoping for a traditional winger this window, ha fat chance and good luck with that buddy. With Poch it looks like inverted wingers at least for the time being.

Yeah, and I am fine with inverted wingers if our FB's give us the width. But as of right now our right side is folding in on itself. Rose and Walker/Yedlin will give us the pace, but when will we actually see that? IDK. But I agree with you and personally am a fan of players cutting in. We just need people filling in that space when players do chose to cut in.

Didn't we do that last year and everyone complained it wasn't Soldado's fault it was those behind him?

not likely as a perm signing. but can see a loan deal if he isn't getting time on the field at Bayern. same way I can see us getting Schurle on loan from the Blues in January.

If the press are to be believed (I know it's a long shot) Liverpool seem to have an almost free run at signing Shaqiri for 10 million pounds! for me, that's a absolute snip and we should be trying to get him in..
