It's very odd that both he and the club have agreed not to sign a new contract. It could be that we agreed to sell him in 1 years time (possibly with Moreno in mind to replace him). If that is the case, I'm hopeful Hugo will be here at least another year, considering he did sign a new contract.

Yeah that's a good point, he may have been told that we were just waiting to see if Moreno would heal and how Vertonghen's performances themselves would compare. And I agree, I'm very hopeful Lloris will stay. Even objectively, I think he will. With Bale, you could see his performances in the spring, and saw Zidane's quotes praising him to the heavens, and knew that one was inevitable. With Lloris though, I just don't see it feasible that anyone who could afford him would actually be a) interested and b) agreeable with both Lloris and Levy.

Just noticed that Espanyol have kept 8 clean sheets in the 13 games Moreno has started, compared to 4 in the 19 games he hasn't.

There could be other factors at play, but still impressive.

Yeah I hadn't heard those stats or seen anything specific, but I had seen several people even from outside the Spurs fanbase making very positive comments about his return.

I like Vertonghen, and I don't like Mexico (on football terms), but I wouldn't mind the move as I want that stadium paid off ASAP. If Poch feels he can make an improvement on a profit, I'm all for it.

I like the core concept of what you're pointing out, but if we go into next season with a winger stable of Lamela, Townsend, Dembele, and Chadli then we have zero chance of performing any better than we have this season and any other expenditures would therefore be a waste of money.

I agree if we were to go for another signing, a pacy winger is what we should look at. However Eriksen and Pritchard can play on the left and I'm keen for the youngsters (Alli, Pritchard, Onouha to get some game time. I also still believe Lamela is a good player, but whether we'll ever see him prove it at spurs is another thing. Townsend I just don't rate but would love him to prove me wrong as seems like a top lad.

I think this is my main point though. Perhaps anyone below the age of 26 with a decent work ethic deserves one more season. In all honesty, how many of us thought Kane, Rose and Bentaleb would be so good this year. I think next year Dier and Mason (both of whom I already rate very highly) will get better as they become more experienced and perhaps one of Lamela or Townsend will step up.

I thought this was a great stat so I took a further look at it.

In 18 league games he missed, the current average position of teams they played in the La Liga table is 11.235. They conceded an average of 1.611 goals per game and kept 4 clean sheets in 18 La Liga games.

In the 14 games he has started*, the current average position of teams they played in the La Liga table is 10.929. They have conceded an average of 0.786* goals per game and kept 8 clean sheets in 14 La Liga games.

* denotes one game at Sevilla, currently in 5th position in La Liga, in which Moreno went off in the 34' when the game was tied 1-1. They lost 3-2 FT.

Pretty impressive if you ask me. As spurs9 said, could be some other factors at play, but I would welcome him.
