With all the PFA discussion, let's have a look at who we think is our player of the season so far.

Only 20 options permitted in a poll, so I have omitted Bentaleb, Winks, N'Jie and McGee from the first team squad.

For me it is extremely tough between Lloris, Toby, Dier, Dembele and Kane but in the end I chose Dembele for sheer difference in our performances when he plays and when he doesn't. Toby a hair behind.

Alderweireld for me. No doubt about it. What he has done with our defence is simply magnificent. Honourable mentions to Kane and Dembele as well, and I aslo think Dier has played a big part in our success this season.

I think it's almost impossible to pick a single player

Kane stands out as he is the focal point of our attack and has scored so many league goals

Alli has taken so many plaudits and been a sensation this season

Dier and Dembele have both been oustanding

Rose and Walker have been pivotal to our system and gave been fantastic full back

Eriksen has not been as spectacular on face value and has less last min winners and sensational free kicks but he has become such an important cog in our team. Reads the game so well, screens the play and intercepts the ball as well as making us tick like an advanced modric with an eye for a perfect pass to make a chance

I wouldn't argue with someone picking any of those players, that's not even mentioning Lloris who's made a string of match winning saves over the year, Lamela has had a great year too and I could understand someone picking him even

Personally though I think Toby has had the biggest impact. He has transformed us as a defensive unit and I think a lot of credit lays at his feet for us becoming a serious force in the league.

That's not to overlook Dier's contribution to making us a more solid unit. Toby however has been one of the signings of the season and his impact has been vital. I think he should have been nominated for the PFA award

For me he is our player of the season

i went for Dembo on the basis that of the existing squad, IMO hes improved the most v. last year and that we have no-one else like him when hes not available.

Well, the only flaw in your logic is that we haven't seen much of Toby being absent for the team.

Alderweireld, debut season, releatively low fee in todays market (think what he is worth now, I'm sure Levy is;))

Turned our defence into an absolute rock, looks so assured back there as if he has been with us for years. Obviously his partnership with Vertonghen has helped massively but even when Vertonghen got injured he seemed to get on just as well with Wimmer. One of the best CBs we have had in a long time and a pleasure to watch. His passing range is fantastic. Also chips in with the odd goal which helps!!

Many have been fantastic. Kane obviously, Dembele has been outstanding. Lamela, Rose, Dier and Eriksen have all had very good seasons.

But Toby Alderweireld has been sensational, he will be in every single pundits Premier league team of the season. He's been consistently excellent, the best CB in the league by a country mile as well, and all in his first season at the Club.

I'll be amazed if he doesn't win this vote pretty comprehensively in all honesty.

But Dembele deserves a big shout as well, without him we look a different team IMO.

was a big decision between dier and toby. I went toby in the end. he has been superb. however, as good as toby has been a huge reason for our defensive record this year has been dier as well. not to mention how good Dembele and kane have been among the rest

that's a nice tough call to make

That's not the criteria though? It's who has been the best player this season and the answer surely has to be Toby?

I can't choose yet but rest assured all the runners up down to 10th could be player of the season at half the other clubs in the Premier league

I'm actually plumping for Dier, because his revelatory protection of the back four has been just as vital as Toby's presence in it.

Can't be any more accurately said than this IMO.

Thats who I went for. We wanted a midfield destroyer so much at the beginning of the season and people were losing their shit because we didn't sign one. Up steps Eric Dier.

Dier.

Alderweireld is going to get it, and I won't begrudge him. But, as I was implying earlier, I think a great deal of the compliments Toby is receiving are in large part based off the influence of Dier.

I find the whole "Toby has shored our defence up" thing somewhat selective.

Toby, we've been so solid when he's played. Alli has had that "wow" factor, but Toby edges it for me.

Agreed. Dortmund games highlight this - as does England's loss to Holland.

Our defence, even with Toby, is far far worse without Dier protecting it. I think he's been the most crucial change to our defence this season.
