What's new

Zokora isn't the player we hoped.

Any other examples?

Chelsea at the Lane? I'm sure I can come up with a few more.

Sorry, DFF, I'm with Juande 100%, and I commented several times last season that, whilst Martin's Plan A was frequently spot-on, Plan B was equally frequently not too great. I was merely commenting on the short memories that some appear to possess. But Juande has inherited Martin's problem, one compounded by injuries that have left us with one working CB, and he's fire-fighting too. Robbo and Jenas preserved us from humiliation on Sunday, and against a better side tonight we could have been irretrievably sunk by half-time.

I'm starting to think that Zokora should be starting at CB right now until we get significantly healthier. He's been better at the back (where he has to be more disciplined) than he has been in midfield (where he has improved, I think, as well.)

Hmm, what to make of it all. Anyone else feel embarrassed when they showed the replay of their first goal at half time and Zokora just stood there like a goon willing the bloke to shoot rather than shutting him down?

Great come back, fall marks to Ramos for kicking them up the ass, blah blah blah, but let's not paper over the fact that the first half was appalling. Really embarrassing to watch on every level.

Wenger actually put in a bid at the time

No he didn't, the French media assumed he did, as Grimandi confirmed they were looking at a CM in Ligue 1. Two days later they signed Diaby, putting an end to that mystery.

Also, if this myth about Wenger being some incredible developer of players was true, then he wouldn't invest so much time and effort in to his incredible scouting network. Wenger doesn't turn ordinary players into stars. He searches the world for the best talent he can lay his hands on and then puts these players in an environment in which they can thrive. It doesn't always work. For every Fabregas there will be 3 players who don't make it. Wenger insists on all his players having good technique, something Zokora certainly doen't. And Zokora was 25 when we signed him. Wenger doesn't develop 25 year olds.

According to Zokora's agent. Wenger was interested in Ghaly—who is far more a Wenger player than Zokora.

There might be a reason why he didn't actually sign Ghaly. Can't think of it right now.

And what i really don't understand why someone would start a thread about Zokora when surely higher priority threads might have been:

1. Why did our captain fantastic only touch the ball 3 times all game, why was he joined to Berbatovs shorts by a 3 metre cable and why is he so scared to come into contact with the opposition.

2. Why does Dawson manage to make dealing with a handfull of attacks seem like the fucking alamo.

3. Why does Chimbonda do stupid things.

Having just watched the first goal in slow motion from my recording of the game, again... I felt equally as embarrassed, if not more, for Keane (chasing the ball carrier and having a chance to challenge, but just giving up hoping a defender would deal with it) and Jenas (running parallel with the ball carrier, goal side, not even hinting at putting a foot in before the shot was finally struck) and to a lesser extent Dawson.

Nope? No mention of them...?

Keane, Jenas and Zokora were clearly the three main offenders. And i'm not talking about a distanced chain reaction of mistakes that eventually lead up to the shot. I'm talking about three players that were able to put at least a challenge in on the goalscorer moments before he struck his shot. Yet i've seen multiple posts only blaming Zokora. Weird, that.

I thought the same about Keane - to run back a fair way and to not put in a tackle was ridiculous. And he had time to make a tackle too. Didn't notice the other two at fault, to be honest, but will take your word for it.

I know what you're saying about Zokora being a whipping boy, and you're right, but as Andy Townsend said on the TV, the area where the guy had the pressure was where Zokora should have been covering. Yes, Keane should have got back, but it WAS Zokora's tackle to make. As much as other people were at fault, you can't get away from that.

You could have justified this thread a few weeks ago. After his past few outings i don't think you can write him off now. Let's see if he carries on this way.

I don't know if you're being serious or not, though. You could have made this thread pretty much any time in his career at Spurs and gotten away with it. He starts stringing good performances together, so then you make this thread. Weird.

Good performances??? Are you serious? He has played awful all season! Jol had too much faith in him and we lost a lot of games as a consequence. He puts masses of pressure on our defence and on JJ with bad positioning and sloppy passing...

In the two matches he played, where he was slapped into a restricting role and taken out of the (VERY) important central midfield role we have played a lot better. At West Ham we were down and came back after he was moved, then last night he was moved and the legend that is tommy hudd was moved into the centre in his place and lo and behold look what happened...

If you sent him to any other top half premiership team he would start on the bench...

Actually I thought Keane looked lost tonight, bad game by his standards.
Zoko pops done well at the back, and I actually feel more comfortable with him as a defender than as a CM. Was surprised Berbs went off instead of keane, but good to see the manager make those unpopular decisions without a 2nd thought.

Loving the way he mixes it up completely. Shame about our initial performances and agree that any better opposition would have had us dead and buried in the first half.

As someone already said, Ramos has inherited Jol's problems, he is dealing with the problems better, but they are still there for all to see.
Maybe Ramos has been lucky with the fixtures so far, but Xmas is going to be tough for us, no questions.

Of course he wanted him - He is a great player! I am so proud that he joined us instead, and other Spurs supporters should be that aswell. He is a quality player for us.

He was all over the place vs Aalborg, and really played for the shirt. He is comitted to the Club, and you can see it.

Any notice that Hudd made Zokora look good last night playing in front of him and tidying up??

LOL... :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: :stupid:

From the mouth of Zokoras man friend as well. I dont understand why you stick up for him so much. He may have commitment and stamina but that is nothing without a footballing brain. He cant pass effeciently forward, he cant shoot (At all) and his positioning is awful..

I suppose its ok though if he shows great commitment to the shirt... :duh:
