Liverpool were rumoured to be interested, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think Drogba only scored once in the whole of his prem career when Dawson played and that was the 5-0 in the FA semis.curious now he is available only QPR are showing interest, good brave CB who has strikers who are aerial threats in his pocket everytime
You're 10000000000000000000000% correctI'm just not sure how AvB can make the call on such a senior player without actually seeing him in the team in a competitive game. Especially given that you can say the same for Verts. Very odd.
Are you implying this was Levy's call?I'm just not sure how AvB can make the call on such a senior player without actually seeing him in the team in a competitive game. Especially given that you can say the same for Verts. Very odd.
Not really what I'm getting at. Squad and fringe players I can understand getting shown the door, but someone who I'd consider a first-team regular not even getting much of a look-in and sold on, even before we've seen Verts in the Prem, we're short on CB's and Gallas isn't getting any younger. Strikes me as an odd decision to make given that we now only have a matter of days to get a replacement in, which I think we will need to as we were light on bodies at CB even before all this. AvB may have been a scout at Chelsea, but I doubt they had much of a look at Dawson while he was there and if he did, I doubt it would have been the basis for any decision to sell him. His comments about not wanting to play Sandro at the weekend due to not seeing him play properly have further confused this for me too. Don't get me wrong, I'm not on an AvB attack here, I just think this is a very strange call. You're 10000000000000000000000% correct
until someone has watched a player as a manager he has no preconceptions about them.
It's not like AVB was a scout for, I don't know, lets say Chelsea.
Not at all, I have no idea who's decision it was, just I find it a very odd one given his standing in the team (former captain and vice-captain, also touted by AVB as a potential captain) and we probably need to keep hold of our CB's at the mo.Are you implying this was Levy's call?
I think it was between him and Gallas who goes, Gallas I think will be gone next season, Dawson 28, coming into the latter stages of his career not really pushing for a first team place, he probably thought this is the best time to cash in on him. As for Verts, from what I understand AVB does a lot of research on players and watches a lot of football, it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that he would have seen him play a number of times already. Not really what I'm getting at. I do not doubt that the man does a lot of research on players, probably like Maureen has many a meticulously compiled dossier on teams, players and managers etc, but then I don't think that will tell you how well anyone is going to play in a different league. We've seen it before many a time, big players that have been relentlessly scouted and phenomenal talents in their respective leagues move clubs and flop. I'm not saying that will happen with Verts, but there's a chance it will, and if there is that chance, then why take the gamble, and why make the statement that he'll be 3rd choice behind Verts without actually seeing them both in this team in competitive games?I think it was between him and Gallas who goes, Gallas I think will be gone next season, Dawson 28, coming into the latter stages of his career not really pushing for a first team place, he probably thought this is the best time to cash in on him. Wonderful case of "BC-Vision" again. An alternate descirption was that Drogba got a lucky bounce when the ball came off his or Dawson's shoulder and hit a weak shot which went through Gomes. But, yeah, don't let it spoil your narrative. He skanked a befuddled Dawson two season's ago at the Lane and whacked it past Gomes.

One player who did always own Dawson though was our own Ade. Let's hope that continues when we play QPR this year.
I guess he thinks it's worth the gamble and doesn't rate Dawson, for what it's worth I don't agree with telling anyone they are first, second, third choice etc. I think nobody should be sure of their place in the team.I do not doubt that the man does a lot of research on players, probably like Maureen has many a meticulously compiled dossier on teams, players and managers etc, but then I don't think that will tell you how well anyone is going to play in a different league. Absolutely. And I think when a new manager comes in, generally you get that bit at the start where everyone gets a go in the team, like you say, a slate wiped clean sort of situation, which I don't think has really happened here except in the case of Gio, which I don't know whether that's just paper talk, but it seems even more odd that you'd have different logic for different players.I guess he thinks it's worth the gamble and doesn't rate Dawson, for what it's worth I don't agree with telling anyone they are first, second, third choice etc. I think nobody should be sure of their place in the team.
He said he was going to use preseason games to look at the player situation, that's really his best opportunity to look at players he wants and doesn't want and he seems to have taken it.Absolutely. I think this is a similar situation to Carroll up at Liverpool, I just don't see how, without even being in the job 10mins just came out with how he doesn't think Carroll fits the team and he'll probably be moved on, despite the fact that Lolopool have as few strikers as even us and their chairman doesn't look like he wants to spend any money. Pretty baffling for the onlooker.
It is the right thing to do. Cash in on Dawson when he is 28 years old. Not bad at all. It is great, and for the combined transfer fee's of Bassong and Dawson, we can re-invest.....
