I do think this mean we have got to get another young CB in. IIRC there are no youngsters coming through in that position.

sad to hear that he might be leaving....

i think we need 5 fit center backs. we need 3 per match (2 in the squad one on the bench in case i get another dumb rating), would be able to rotate the other 2 for cup matches.

Gallas also has his injury problems, and at the pace we currently play, don't know if we can make it 2 games a week.

kinda prefer we keep him but i guess Levy knows best. maybe we'll bring in someone on loan or a one year contract to bridge the gap.

just seen this on the SSN website

Tottenham Hotspur have accepted a bid in excess of £9million from Queens Park Rangers for defender Michael Dawson, Sky Sports sources understand.

Really sorry to see him go.

Good luck Daws.

I read that as five ft centre backs. I was just about to type out a response...

9mil for a guy coming off an injury plagued season is fantastic business for us. Feel like you have to take that offer.

Surely having been omitted from the squad he must be off?

With the way the defense played on Saturday i can't see him fitting in very well. Looks like those who thought he was going to be made captain were way off the mark.

Shame as i think he's a top bloke, but AVB seems to think he won't suit our new style of play it seems.

Well how did the defense play on Saturday that made it any different than the usual ol self? As far as the last 4 goes it look the same to me.

£9m for an England CB who's had only one season of injury and has years remaining on his contract? Not so good IMO.

This is it really. He's 5th choice, he's had some bad injuries and he's not gonna get any younger or better. In Levy world this is the optimum time to sell him as he'll get excellent money (£9m not £5.5m) for a player the manager isn't fussed about and it'll help him improve other parts of the squad which really need it.

He's seems like a top bloke and I bet he's gutted - it shows how for all the cash and glamour the uncertainty and life span of a pro footballer is not one that we'd want. At least the Prem players get wads of cash to compensate - it's the poor fuckers in league 2 I feel for...

It's very good money for him but this has left me feeling very gutted, I thought he would be at spurs for life. It goes to show no one is free of the chop if they don't suit the new managers plans.

We need to trust in AVB and his ideas. But still thanks for everything you have done and put into my club.

You gave everything and wore your heart on your sleeve, in my eyes legendary, my opinion.

What's all this 5th choice bollox everyone is spouting??

At his best and fittest he's 1st choice and should be our Terry/Leader

At the very least he should still be ahead of Caulker, who's just a kid and Gallas who is past it 70% of the time!!

Bad move. How many leaders have we got? I hope for all of us Verts is as good as we think he is and adapts quickly!

A few points on Dawson which I'm sure many people will disagree with......

1. Guy has been massively overrated by our fan base because he is English, a great guy, and does have quite the passion and commitment to the club. That being said, he is just not fit for AVB's system and would be 4th or 5th choice behind Kaboul, Verts, Caulker, and based off the selection of the first game, Gallas.

2. See people comparing him to Terry and saying how he is a top CB in the premier league. I think all I need to know about his quality is by the level of teams who came in for him when we put him out there. Stoke, QPR, and Sunderland....all middle to bottom of the league teams. He is just not a top CB for a consistent Champions League side.

3. I've heard a lot of "Well we should of at least kept him for 4th or 5th choice". Well yes, I think everyone would have liked that....except maybe Dawson. It's very likely that AVB/Levy talked to Dawson about where they see him in their plans and out of respect to his service to the club, gave him the option to leave if he chose to do so. I'm sure Dawson had quite a bit say in this decision and wanted the opportunity for first team football.

A fair few, actually. Parker has captained England, Kaboul is a very vocal, very talented CB who has captained us a number of times, Gallas was captain of Arsenal untill he threw a hissy, VDV is the Dutch vice-captain, and Vertonghen was the captain of Ajax at the age of 24. Not to mention Sandro, who will most likely captain Brazil one day.

So yeah, I don't think we're nearly as bad in the leadership department as we used to be.

It's what AVB is spouting - why else is he up for sale?

Always has a smile on his face and looks like he genuinely loves life at Spurs. I doubt AVB has had time to realise what he is selling. Dawson, for me, is one of the more consistant performers. Might not be a world beater but he always tries his best. A really likeable guy who must be good for dressing room spirit.

If the initial 7.5m goes toward Llorente I wouldn't mind though!
