8th won't be enough for UEFA Cup via League, but maybe Intertoto.
no it wont beni. this has been talked about over and over.
to get into the uefa cup you need to:
finish 5th
win the fa cup
win the cc.
If fa cup winner and runner up are in the top 5, this uefa spot goes to 6th in the league.
If cc is won by a top 5 team, this spot goes to the 7th team in the league!
As the cups are normally won by top 5 teams, it just so happens that 6th and 7th are usually good enough for uefa cup entry. 8th would see us intertoto!
I am on here everyday, and I haven't seen it being talked and talked about, with the exception of "Are we in Europe automatically, by being runners up or winners of the Carling Cup" which I know is No.
What I thought was, England have 4 clubs qualifying for CL (1st-4th) and then 4 teams qualifying for Uefa (5th and 6th place, CC Winners and FA Cup Winners) hence my reasoning as to why 8th might be good enough to qualify.
If I am wrong, then fair enough.
Yeah, unfortunately you are wrong, mate. And it depends on your definition of 'over and over', but if you go back and read through this thread at least a couple of other people have made your mistake here. It does crop up from time-to-time, which goes to show what an easy mistake it is to make (after all, who'd have thunk that we have more CL spots than UEFA?).
No-one able to answer my earlier question about other clubs entering the Intertoto? It would be damn nice to know.
I'm convinced a mickey mouse side (either Pompey or more likely Boro) will make Europe through the FACup, so if we lose to Chelsea (and of course they are heavy favourites) then it would be awful if someone like Blackburn or Villa took the Intertoto cup spot and left us out of the reckoning. I've come to be quite fond of being in Europe, you know.
:grin:Ah, its all irrelevant anyway, we're gonna win the Cup :snooty:
