Lennon is only playing well, because he has been given the opportunity to have a run of games and try and build some form

All our players don't really have that opportunity and hence why alot of the bit part players are playing so bad

Bolasie does this crazy thing where he consistently takes players on, beats them, then fires in a dangerous cross and occasionally even scores. Lennon should try it sometime.
He also does this thing where he flatters to deceive and is average.

Konoplyanka, Yarmolenko, Bolasie, Ayew, Salah...shall I go on?

I agree with you on Mirallas. Neither he nor Chadli are top 4 level wingers.
Ayew might be better than Chadli defensively but Chadli is more productive. This year Chadli has 1 less league goal than Ayew's highest ever goal scoring season (5 years ago) in the French league and Chadli also has an equal amount of assists to Ayew's highest season for assists too.

I know stats don't tell the whole story, but from when I have seen Ayew play, he has been no better than Chadli from an attacking perspective.

The irony is that people want to replace average with more average
I don't think Bolasie is average. I don't think he is world class either, but I was just asked for a list of wingers better than Lennon off the top of my head, and for me, he is certainly that.

based on a handful of good games this season? he may be more skillful - but is he more effective for a team?
people seem to forget that our style has had to evolve as we have improved, and teams no longer attack against us. They sit back, double up on the wingers and we need to be cuter to break them down. The way the style is evolving lamela may be the type of player we need, but we also need other midfielders who run past the strikers to create the space and movement we need to break teams down.

the players you mentioned earlier are all players who like to play on the break and have space to run into - therefore are they better than lennon? i don't know - but i wouldn't bet on them being more affective at spurs.

I just wanted you to provide realistic targets - are any of those realistic?

We certainly wouldn't be paying the figures Pardew has quoted for Bolasie, whilst Konoplyanka and Yarmelenko have all been heavily linked with Champions League teams who can pay better wages.

Salah has already failed to make an impact in the Premier League and I am not sure about Ayew either, he is still very much unproven at the top level.

he wasn't exactly given a chance.

Look at Matic, Chelsea signed him then sold him... resigned him and he's been the best DM in the prem this season. Then there's De Bruyne, didn't get a sniff at Chelsea... yet went to Wolfsburg for circa £18m and now heavily linked with Juve for £20-25m.

It's not like Lennon is still raw and had a dip in form, he's 27/28? lost a yard of pace and has been poor for 2-3 seasons now. Considering we need circa 10 goals a season from our wide forwards, Lennon has been diabolical in that sense and scoring 5 once and averaging 3 every other season in the league, it's nowhere near good enough. Selling him whilst he's had a decent spell for Everton makes sense on so many levels.

I just don't get this thread anymore...This is Aaron Lennon ffs. How many times do you have to watch him shit himself up 1v1 in the corner with a defender and pass it back to Walker, how many times do you have to watch him "fire" a 1mph shot that rolls across the ground, how many times do you have to watch him miss the stadium with a cross...to realize he's not that great, and certainly not nearly good enough to be starting for us anymore. He's not even the defensive player people think he is, for example, the opening goal at Chelsea this season was 100% his fault, and he was only picked that day because of his "tracking back"... he had had playing time aplenty under all of our last 4 managers to establish himself, never did. He's a talented player that never really realized those talents, and never became more than very average. And unfortunately for him, with every day that his pace gets a little worse now, he's a little bit more ineffective.

People are vey forgetful. Remember last year when playing with Lennon was akin to playing with 10 men and if him and defoe were in the same team, we went down to 9 men?

Lennon is useless, period. Everton is just about his level this year. Better off at a club lower than Everton next season when the table corrects itself and their back in the top 8.
