A worrying performance I thought .

The system doesn't look right and the team is still stale.

But but but it's pre season, hopefully new players to come and no point dwelling. Onwards and upwards

Why would people think it's excessive, it's a good deal for Southampton.
You seemed to be suggesting the reason the deal went though so smoothly or so un- Spurs like was that Villa had overpaid and I didn't think they had and we should have been strongly interested at that price.

Anyone think it's a bit suss that Lloris wasn't in the squad?
1 year left on contract, also spurs Twitter seem to be pushing Gollini a fair amount
The thought did cross my mind, but I think we're overanalysing it.

Lloris at his age would bring in bugger all money, and we would've just signed Gollini outright rather than setting up the 20 appearance obligation if we had any intention of selling Lloris. Plus there's no way we'd go into the season with Whiteman as our backup keeper.

In reality it's probably just a minor injury or a covid thing.

Yep. 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, 1 per goal. So far we've had Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea and Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham. currently Chelsea 8, Spurs 3, Arsenal 1. Therefore if we win while scoring two (or draw 4-4) we share the trophy with Chelsea, if we win while scoring at least 3 (or draw 5-5 or higher) we win outright, if we lose while conceding 4 Arsenal share the trophy with Chelsea, if we lose while conceding 5 plus Arsenal win outright, any other result and Chelsea win outright. Simples!
Quick maths..

I didn't say they overpaid at all.

I was saying that they bid straight without an auction, easy to do when you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

So presuming Romero has signed, we need:

Right back
Another Centre back
Central midfield player
Right side forward
Centre forward

As absolute mandatory.

Then arguably we need a creative number 10.

And then if Kane leaves we need at least one extra striker on top of the other one we need even if he stays.

Good job Fabio never sleeps.

I think that second half performance saved Nuno's job by the way some of the comments were going in the first half!

I missed the game, but kept and eye out in here and have just watched the highlights.

I dunno if it’s my age or the internet generation, but some of the knee jerk bullshit I read was just completely pathetic.

I realise the irony of this, but why does everyone think their opinion these days is important?

Just because you are allowed one doesn’t mean by proxy that it’s valid or noteworthy.

I was pleased with that game, worth watching. Some negatives but plenty of positives. I have to say though, god help me - Doherty is an awful football player.

I've watched Chelsea's first goal back a few times now because I felt sure that Dier wasn't primarily at fault. Firstly, obviously Lucas losing the ball to Kante was the catalyst, but as Ziyech ran at the defence Werner went outside Dier's left shoulder. If Dier had engaged Ziyech then it would be a simple slide in for Werner who would now be free. Looking across to Tanganga and PEH(?) you can see there is no threat on Chelsea's left at all. Tanganga absolutely had to shift across to close down Ziyech.

I like Tanganga, so hope that looking back at this will help him understand that he needed to take control of that himself.

Hopefully Gill can cover this role, but agree with all the others.

The people going apoplectic at the knee-jerkers are just as bad as the knee-jerkers.

Why?

Which is more useful?

I’ll add that “apoplectic” is wildly exaggerated. You’re assuming it’s empathy around my argument. It’s not. It’s my general disdain of the human race that’s my issue.

Things don’t look good INSTANTLY? Let’s fucking complain about it.
Everything/one is so unbelievably throwaway and short-term these days.

Better to get a hot take in rather than a considered and level evaluation. I honestly wonder how some people deal with every day life based on some of the stuff I read in match threads…

Complain culture.

Why do we need a right wing forward?
