It would be genuinely sad if we can't make a player out of a someone with his technical ability.

Would be equally amazing if he turns in to an a real top level player, polishing up and developing gems like him is the way we will make it back into the CL.

No pressure Christian!

Christiano Ronaldo just scored 3 GOALS in hes first season at sporting! HE IS SHITE!-.-

He was also about 5 years younger than Ceballos now, when he was as of same age 1992/2014 -> 1985/2007 C.Ronaldo had just scored 23 goals and gave 23 assists for ManU in all competitions.

He is 22 in few months, the hype at Barca was beyond 5 years ago, when he was just small kid (cue to Owen Price). He never got playing competitive games at Barca B, never won youth caps with Spain etc., so it's rather fair to say at that point when he left for us, he wasn't highly regarded.

He played 19 League games (1.288 mins) at Arouca last season scoring 1 and having 0 or 1 assists pending on source. He also featured on 5 domestic cup games (357 mins) scoring 1 and having 0 assists. Wouldn't hold my breath regarding any sort of breakthrough.
Valbuena didn't play in any of Frances youth teams and didn't even play in a side above the 3rd division in France until he was 22, yet he has 38 caps for France now and played all but 1 game in the World Cup for them.

True, there are late bloomers.

Unless I watched incorrectly he registered 2 goals and around 5 assists and should have had more.

Some of those assists weren't his, take Nacional game for instance. That cross is from Balliu, at least according official stats. It's bit hard to tell from that vid, but it doesn't look like Ceballos. On league I spotted outside Braga goal and Braga assits (latter is on record on some sites) assists against Estoril and Rio Ave. Don't know why those weren't given when compared to say that cross from Balliu against Nacional. Probably have to watch it again.

Anyway could Boro be good place for him next season? They've Spanish coach in Karanka and three Spanish players (Mejias, Ayala, Kike and 1 more Spanish speaking in Ledesma) so that would help to adjust. Solid midtable team where he might get minutes, guess Adomah, Carayol, Ledesma and Kamara would be competitors for different roles, but perhaps Karanka would fancy player in the mould of Ceballos?

Some people clearly have an agenda of some sorts, god knows what. I don't care about last years stats, u21 stats, if this or that pass counted as an assist or if his preferred wanking hand is right or left. All I know is that he impressed me in the 45 minutes he's played so far this summer and all I hope is that he continues to impress, improve and develop. *until the point comes where he's outgrown us and gets sold to Real or Barca for 150m breaking all of our hearts*

I'm certain he was a few inches shorter when he joined, he's listed at 5'8" now on Wikipedia which is taller than all 3 of them! Guess he must have had a late growth spurt.

Yeah he looks bigger and thicker than lennon

Watching that video of him last season, there are many things he does that would have been far more successful had he the intelligence of Soldado, Lamela and Eriksen playing around him. Another loan is the last thing this kid needs. Keep him around the first team squad and give him minutes. Poch could be the making of him.

Last season loan statistics are largely irrelevant. If Poch thinks he has the skillset to contribute to his system and philosophy then i'm sure he will have no problem given him game time.

I'd like to see more of him, but he seems to play in a position where we have better players ahead of him who aren't actually that much older. Honestly, I thought he was still something like 18, not a couple of months younger than Eriksen and Lamela. Not sure we can afford him taking up a squad place at this stage.
