This is just a case of growing/adjusting pains, i really don't see Erik leaving and think he should fight through the adversity, it will only make him a better player. Plus he is surrounded by people who want him to succeed so really all he needs to do is play is game and get better.

No way we'd let a record signing go after half of a league campaign in which the manager who didn't rate him was sacked.

Plus we have Baldini who seems to be one of his biggest fans. He'll have a part to play in these last two thirds of the season.

Silver linings and all that - Townsend's injury could provide Lamela with the chance to show what he can do on a regular basis underSherwood

Its really quite simple. He gets better week on week and by next season he will be one of our top performers.

Lets face it, the transfer price of a player is only relevant once he leaves or retires, only then can you judge it to be a decent buy or not.

Exactly. All players get 1 year min before judgement.

A player should be rated over the term of his contract, not the first six months. This boy was always a long term buy.

Hey guys, remember when we were selling Bale for 3mill to Forest? A few years later and we sell him for 86mill to Madrid.

Morale of the story: Be patient. Lamela will come good. We will not give up on him. The club knew it will take time for him to settle. He's only had 14 appearances for us, and only 3 league starts.

Push him forward more, at the moment he loses possession quite a bit, his touch is heavy and he tries to do the right things in the wrong place on the pitch, taking players on closer to the centre circle than the opposition box, i want to see him put defenders under pressure, not try and skin hard working ball winning midfielders, it won't work, he has a football brain, and the talent, let's use it properly.

No

I remember other teams looking at him with Birmingham and Forest maybe taking him on loan.
Looks like Harry would have been happy to let him go, but i remember nothing of Levy happy to sell him for £3m

Also came across this(apparently he was offered to West Ham for 3m also):

Sandro and Lamela today went Christmas shopping together in London and were spotted by many Tottenham fans. #THFC

Sandro appears to have really taken him under his wing. I'm sure he is doing for Lamela what Gomes did for him.

I've seen plenty of stories that Italian clubs want him either permanently or on-loan. Shock horror. If say Benteke had gone to Napoli in the summer and had barely started, scored or played that well do you not think we, Arsenal, Liverpool and a whole host of other teams would at least make inquiries? And what do you expect the response would be? No, bugger off he's settling and we're giving him until at least the end of the season. There doesn't seem to be a real intent from us to sell and I hardly blame clubs from asking.

he just has way too much natural talent for us to send him away. he will come good.

what he needs is to be pushed up more. out wide in a 4-4-2 isn't suited to him. he needs to be closer to goal, not out hugging the touchline.

he will come good. we have to be patient. we have a worldie on our hands here..

He's drifted in and out under AVB, yet started Sunday for Sherwood, out a shift in too. I think he looks exactly what he is, a talented young footballer at a new club in a new country, and that's key, he's young and in a totally foreign environment. But, game by game he is starting to look closer to the player who the club deemed necessary to spend so much money on. Still some way off, but heading in the right direction, and he won't be loaned out in my opinion.
I agree with above, he needs to be playing as part of the advanced 3 in a 4231 or 433. Not sure wide in a 442 gets the best out if him.

I can't see us doing much this window. We bought a lot in the summer, so still need some of those to settle.
Maybe CF if the Defoe stuff is true. Could do with shoring up the back, so LB in, maybe a bit of CB depth with Kaboul's ongoing issues. But maybe we'll look within, use Kane, recall Ekotto?
If we stay 442, maybe one of out abundance of CM's will be sold/loaned. Sandro, Capoue, Dembele, Paulinho, Holtby, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, 7 players to cover 2 positions.

I actually think he can thrive in the "Ade" role for us either right under the main forward or just floating around the forward. Being able to just "go out there and play" would work well for his confidence. And also he won't have to worry about tracking back as often and if he does commit a foul it will be in the opponents half not to mention the amount of fouls he would draw with his close control and tight dribbling.
