Liverpool have no easier fixture list than us for the next 7 games (last game being 1st March), in fact I would say their's is slightly more difficult.

We play each other, we both play West Ham and Sunderland and we also play, Palace, West Brom, Arsenal and QPR, where as Liverpool play, Villa Everton, Southampton and Man City.

And we've both got the same number of games, what with EL and LC, except they've got a double header against Chelsea whereas we've got Sheffield United. They have a nice trip to Turkey as well.

Arsenal have limped to fourth for the last few years. Each time they look vulnerable and we all pray that this will be the year that they don't make it, but they have always managed it in the end. I won't let my self get exited. :cautious:

I would take being 2 points behind 4th place with 3/4 games to go. As long as we can sustain our challenge for the top 4 as we weren't even close last year.

Jan 11 Table (following Palace defeat)

Table now :

We have closed the gap on

i) Chelsea from 15 points to 13 points
ii) Southampton from 5 points to 2 Points
iii) Manchester United from 3 points to 1 point
iv) 2 Points below Arsenal to 1 ahead of them
v) Increased the lead over Liverpool from 2 to 4 points
vi) Increased lead over Wet Spam from 1 point to 6 points
vii) Biggest of all - Manchester city from 13 points to 5 points.

In last 3 games, we have improved on every team in PL. Its not like we had easier fixtures compared to others.

I really think we are pushing on as a team. Our performances have improved. Keeping Kane & Eriksen fit is of course paramount. But injury & fitness wise, we couldn't have asked more from coaching staffs. Lane is back to to be a fortress again & we are getting important wins.

Liverpool on Tuesday is massive game. We could dash Liverpool hopes of being in CL. That will be a psychological blow for them.

Having watched United & City this week, pressure is on them. Suddenly City finds itself cut out of title race & United are no more 'guaranteed' 3rd or fourth spot.

I am getting more & more optimistic now of our chances in Top4.

Why do this to yourself? As Spurs fans we know what has happened time and time again! I think it's best just to sit back and see what happens instead of getting our hopes up. This way I won't be bitterly disappointed if we do miss the top 4 again. We are having a good run and even if we beat Liverpool who's to say that we wont slip up against a lower team at some point and have all our hard work unstuck!

To those who voted for Spurs and Southampton, yes it would be fantastic and a breath of fresh air seeing Utd AND the Gooners out of the Champions League in the same season, but I can't help thinking your hearts are ruling your heads.

Well, for one thing I don't get disappointed as you presume.
If you notice, more than half of my post here are just facts , just pointing out how we have done - not how we will do.
At the end , I said I am being optimistic not proclaim we will get top4.

Do you mean to say that any topic on discussion on top4 shouldn't happen ?

If we can have so many threads on transfer rumors where only 2 to 5% is bound to happen. When people can speculate & be optimistic on certain transfers, why not a thread to discuss on top4?

Your point on Liverpool game - I believe your thoughts out of the horrible run we went through under Harry's last year. There are so many things different now. You want to show Harry's last season as a example , I want to show 2009/10 season as a example where we did beat likes of Chelsea & Arsenal towards top4.

Southampton - They have got the best defense in the league. They have conceded just 17 goals (in 24 games). Next best is Chelsea with 21. Not only that - they have scored more than us (38 to our 37). So, its not unthinkable IMO that they will be in top4.

I'm not saying that it's unthinkable, I would love nothing more than to see us and the Saints in the Champions League at Arsenal and Utd's expense it would be good for football in this country as Utd and Arsenal would be sulking like spoilt kids used to getting their own way, I'm just saying is more unlikely but I'd be delighted to be proven wrong.

Must not lose heart. We can still do it.

In last 2 years, we have got couple of 5-2 defeats with Arsenal, 5-1s with City, 6-0 from Chelsea, 3 bad defeats with Liverpool .
Often after these games, we lose confidence & lost our way in our campaigns....Unlike last couple of years, what gives me great confidence is we are fighting till last minute every game. We are always in the game.

As long as we remain in the contest, you never know.Good thing is, unlike other teams we have faced atleast 3 top teams already. Only we have to face a United , City & Southampton. We have won every game against Saints since their comeback. If City is a distant second they wont have anything to play for when we meet them. That leaves United away - frankly I believe we could get a result against them.

Looking at our run in after the Man Ure game, we do have a run of games where we can step up the pressure on the current top four. If we can finish ahead of Arsenal (even if outside the top four), win the Cup over Chel$ea it would be an incredible first season under Poch.

Think the game against West Ham is massive next Sunday. Have to bounce back after a defeat and its after our game on Thursday night. Going to be tricky but I think if we can win that we'll have a great chance of getting top four despite there still being a long way to go afterwards.

Just feel this game is key for the purposes of setting us up for momentum, particularly with Southampton and Liverpool playing later that day.
