JD missed a string of good chances. Oh well JD , well done for finshing half a chance, but Jesus, you missed 3 golden chances.

Scorer of great goals, not a great goalscorer.

Ipso, facto.

The 2 he missed in the first half were amazing chances. James did well to save the header but he still shoulda scored. The one where he blasted wide was criminal.

Maybe, but if you gave me the choice of who i'd rather have up front playing for Spurs, there's no question. If JD gets 4 or 5 chances a game, he'll more than likely score at least one, whereas Bent never really looks like he's going to score. If i was being picky, i'd say the first chance was his wrong foot and the header was a great save.

Pity, cos i like Bent, but i don't think he's good enough for us or suited to us.

Everton would make good use of Darren Bent. He will be first choice and get a regular run and will play up top in front of five. They will play to his predatory strengths.

As for Defoe, I'm happy for him to have three good chances per game if he puts one away. The trick is for the midfield to give him those opportunities. That's where a buzing Modric and a fit Pav. will come in.

The header? He could not have done it any better, the ball was that high up that he couldn't head it down or steer it better.
I agree with both opinions

Totally agree JD even when he does miss doesnt let his head drop he plays with confidence and always looks like getin ya a goal.Would luv to see BENT do well but it aint goin to happen we really need another big strong target man capable of holding up the ball:-|

If Defoe had passed to Bent instead of just trying to score from an acute angle we'd have won and Bent could have done the same for Defoe.

Agreed.
Also if Defoe had missed the 1st half sitter at the same time when Bent missed his would Defoe be getting that sort of stick?

i've been patient when it comes to Bent and i really hoped he'd do well this season. But JD missed his chances, he didn't go and hide tho did he? kept on going and got his reward. Bent, went missing. In fact, he didn't really turn up.

If an offer comes in of 10mill or so, then i'd take it, and get a stronger guy in up top.

I find Bent very frustrating to watch. He has no first touch, no ability to hold up the ball, nothing. I know he scores when the opportunity is presented to him, but he creates nothing. Its just not mcuh to watch him run thirty yards only to have the defender win possession.

i agree with bomberH, though Defoes first chance came on the wrong foot and james made a great save on the header but as a PL striker at least one of them should have hit the back of the net... Unless Bent is allowed to run on to balls he never looks like he is gonna score (although he does sometimes, and some of the critism he recieves is unjust)...

I must admit, I did mutter to myself "that's why we sold him in the first place" when Defoe missed his first chance. Not even getting it on target was criminal.

I'd still rather he played than Bent though...

Andy Gray actually made a good point today - the thing about Defoe is that even having missed two chances he should have scored in the first half he still went looking for chances and took his goal with confidence... Bent's sitter came with not much of the game left, but would he have carried on in the same way as Defoe did?

I'm all for supporting our players, but let's not support one at the expense of another.

Defoe scored, Bent didn't. Fact. Anything other than that is a "what if" and hindsight is a wonderful thing in football.
