This is the original link (in spanish) from AS.
http://futbol.as.com/futbol/2014/07/31/primera/1406827174_972786.html

I'm posting it because there are some slight but maybe important differences.

It says we already made an offer, rumoured to be about €15m, and that his agent went yesterday to meet with Villarreal directives to discuss the offer. It says it was a long meeting, and that it appears Musacchio will be leaving, but that nothing's done yet.

The Vertonghen link to Barcelona is pure speculation based on us trying to sign a new CB. They don't think (or they don't want to as it wouldn't sell papers) we can sell Dawson or Chiriches
Have you seen much of him Ossie?

Interesting article from March about the good and the bad of Musacchio (ignore the Bosman stuff as its pretty clear he's still under contract). He's pretty highly thought of but he does channel a little Gomes Steven Gerrard sometimes:

Fixed. :D

That's who the slip reminds me of anyway.

Aaand three in a row - quite a few reports claiming there is a hefty sell-on fee involved for River Plate. My Spanish is rusty, so its either claiming that River would get 35% of a transfer, or that Villareal would only get 35% of the total! If true then this one could get ugly...

"Aunque desde el Reino Unido ha trascendido la cifra de 15 millones de euros como la cantidad que estaría dispuesto a desembolsar el Tottenham, esta parece corta, más teniendo en cuenta que el club amarillo no posee la totalidad de los derechos de Musacchio --el litigio con el River está denunciado ante la FIFA y la justicia ordinaria-- y solo ingresaría el 35% de la cantidad del traspaso."

It's saying that villarreal would only get 35% of the deal

I searched a bit about that and i found this

De Mateo Musacchio, actualmente en Villareal, River tiene el 35% del pase, el otro 35% es de Villareal y el 30% de Rio Football Services Holland BV.
That means villarral has 35%, river another 35%, and someone else 30%.

I don't know how it is in this case, if villarreal decides and the rest get their share or if we have to make a deal with each part

It's not written by Stobart but nevertheless:

Tottenham weigh up Musacchio bid

New Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is preparing to swoop for the 23-year-old centre-back, who starred for Villarreal last season and is seen as an ideal partner for Jan Vertonghen

By David Craddock

Tottenham are considering an offer for Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio, Goal understands.

New boss Mauricio Pochettino has made bolstering his defence a priority this summer, and has already brought in 20-year-old centre-back Eric Dier in a £4 million deal.

Now the Argentine boss – who knows La Liga well having spent eight years in Spain as player and manager of Espanyol – is eyeing a move for compatriot Musacchio, who is valued at around £15 million by his club.

The 23-year-old enjoyed an excellent campaign with El Submarino Amarillo last term and was voted the club’s Player of the Season, though surprisingly missed out on a place in Alejandro Sabella’s World Cup squad.

Any deal could be complicated by ownership issues, with former club River Plate still holding a percentage of the defender’s rights.

Musacchio has impressed Tottenham scouts and is seen as an ideal foil for Jan Vertonghen, with the club keen to sit down with the Belgian to discuss a new contract, as revealed by Goal.

Spurs will need to offload some of their current batch of defenders to make way for Musacchio, though, and Michael Dawson has already been told he can leave the club this summer.

Hull City and QPR have both targeted the veteran centre-back, who has failed to convince Pochettino he is suited to the Argentine’s style of play.

If we get this guy I do wonder where it leaves Chiriches. I'd assume Musacchio and Kaboul will fight it out to partner Vertonghen. Dier I'm assuming has been brought in and will be played in maybe 10 games this season. Then there's Dawson who seemingly currently doesn't particularly want to go. Wouldn't surprise me if come Sept 2nd we have Vertonghen, Musacchio, Kaboul, Dier and Dawson.

Vertonghen, Musacchio, Chirches and Dier has a nice look about it. 2 cultured ballplayers and 2 more powerful players. Chirches covering for Verts and Dier for Musacchio.

I love Dawson, but I don't think we can rely on either him or Kaboul anymore. The pace is just too much for both of them now.

Kaboul is also on the last year of his deal, so I wonder how much he really weighs in on Poch's future plans.

We have to keep either Kaboul or Dawson imo. There is far too much expectation placed on Dier already.

if Vlad leaves, I will be pissed off.
I don't see what Musachhio does better than Vlad.

Chiriches2.gif

Interceptions per 90: Musacchio-3.42 Vlad-2.48
Blocks per 90: Musacchio-0.54 Vlad-0.25
Clearances per 90: Musacchio-6.49 Vlad-5.29

Musacchio isn't a flair player but he reads the game really well, 3rd most interceptions in all of La Liga.

Depends where you've taken those stats from, last season? If so Vlad didnt really get a run of games and was also adjusting to a new league. Not saying anyones better than anyone though as I'd never heard of the guy in all honesty. But watching his youtube vids he's basically a stronger Vlad, without the talent.

Do those stats take into account the amount of 90 minutes each player had? Do those stats take into account the differences in the style of football each player was facing?

Not having a dig at you, BC, I'm just saying that those stats mean fuck all.

Soldado had more assists than Lennon, Townsend and Sigurdsson combined, but that doesn't mean I want him playing on our wing & being our 'provider' .

It's average per 90 minutes. So it doesn't matter how many games each of them played, or if the played less minutes in a game.

I did a Squawka comparison between Mateo and our 4 CBs from last season and Musacchio was the best overall with Jan and Vlad close behind...
