Royal and PEH were great today (special shout out to them) and I don't normally like voting for the goalscorer for the sake of it but today Harry Kane became THFC all time leading goalscorer and for that I think this is a special game for him.
I felt this team was more composed and less stressed without Conte being there. Passing wasn't great first half but you could see what they were trying to do, there was some real intent. You could see the difference in Son too
It is hard to pick as most of the team were fantastic but PEH probably knicks it for me.
Lloris - kept calm and didnt make mistakes
Davies - very good
Dier - very good
Romero - good but too rash at times
Perisic - thought he was poor today
Royal - amazing
PEH - amazing
Bentancur - amazing
Son - best game in a long time. Hopefully turned a corner now
Kane - fantastic
Kulu - very good
Emerson, Pierre, Harry top. Cuti before the red too; unfortunately his stupid first yellow made the necessary second one result in him sent off. Most everyone else very good. Ivan the only subpar performance. Was truly a collective win though. Really proud.
For first time ever I’m giving a joint MOM to Emerson and Hojbjerg! Both were immense.
A new Special Player of the Match Award to Harry Kane for breaking Tottenham’s leading goal scoring record(beating my boyhood hero Jimmy Greaves) and being only the third, and the fastest, player to score 200 PL goals.
We won’t see his like again for a long time.
Royal was great - pocketed Grealish who was their best player on the day.
PEH excellent too. Special mention to Ben Davies too - I often point out his poor performances but full credit where it’s due.
We were way more aggressive all over the pitch today. Shame we didn’t demonstrate that level of aggression and intensity to deny the scums title aspirations the other week.
Thought we were excellent today. But Royal stepped up.
As ever, watching Kanes passing is a masterclass. Few years time he could drop into midfield and be like Pirlo!
Went to the game today - may i say that the sausage rolls are getting better
Anyways as for MOTM - Emerson or PEH really, i think PEH just edges it - he was a leader out there today.
We did play better as a team and we played oddly enough with more freedom - ill ask the question here, but will ask the question in the Conte thread - are the players fearful of making a mistake when Conte is on the sidelines?
Its line ball for me between Son and Royal - But since Son isnt listed I guess I give it to EmerSon. (See what I did there )
PEH was also awesome, but I felt having Son making those runs again is something that just lifts the whole team - He should have had an assist as well.
PEH MOTM, Closely followed by Emerson, good energy throughout and I thought 1-0 flattered MCY …
few loose passes from us that could have caused problems into CM but beyond that very good throughout. Grealish buying free kicks left right and centre, thought ref was 6/10
still don’t like the sky bias on commentary……
Was a tough pick between royal and team effort but couldn't of done it without the whole team being on fork.
Real signs of the team finally hitting form at the right time COYS.
Last couple of performances we have stepped up again.
Gave motm to Royal because of what became quite a battle with (the cheat) Grealish, who threw hemself around all game and moaned.
Seeing Aurier get terrorised by Gnonto and Rashford over the last week many may have been expecting something similar today from Royal but he went toe to toe with Jack and came out well on top.
Son seems to have found his speed, drive and control and really drove us forwards on a few occasions, PEH and Bentancur controlled midfield (which Pep had bizarrely thinned out for us...)
Kulu was a bit wasteful at times but never stopped,
Sloppy pass from Davies which PEH couldn't control led to Romero's second yellow, i thought he was unfortunate as Grealish was in full cheat mode and did his hang out a leg mid air dive before contact (he did it all game, and the ref ((who was shocking)) lapped it up)
Was worried a few ties by Perisic but for the most part he did well (even Sess did well when he came on)
And it was fitting that Kane's (mishit) landmark goal was the winner.
Green shoots, and more to come with the new boys raring to go. (and if Porro and Danjuma do nothing other than spur Royal and Son to better things then they've already made an impact)
Haaland really has changed the dynamic at City as without all those AM's flitting around interchanging the sole striker can go through games barely seeing the ball (like today)
