Sheikh it off, Sheikh it off.

The day we get bought out and made a soul-less corporation (even more so?) akin to the likes of Manchester City's half full Champions League fixtures and Chelsea's "great day out for the tourists with 2.4 children" (all 4.4 of whom are kitted out in full kit carrying flags and £8.50 pies) is the day I will gladly not renew my season ticket.

There is something to be said for doing it the right way. I don't care if we never win the League because of that very fact either. Some supporter I must be eh?

Cheering the players every week, not wishing to just be another customer number. When actually, what you are inferring is that the only we can be successful is if we're bought out (if it is not, and please correct me).

I've said it before and I will say it again. They need to swap the Champions League to an FA cup format with every team in a top division in Europe taking part. Keep FFP and we will then be a lot closer to equality. Otherwise football in Europe is dying.

did Sir Alan have the astronomical Sky money to play with?

Yep. He did. Not as much as it is now, of course. But proportionally, in terms of other club's TV revenues and in terms of the cost of buying and paying players, it was more or less the same.

Not to mention that, when he took over, there was no gaping financial chasm between Spurs and those other "Big Five" clubs of yore - Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal. It was during his time at the club that we fell off the map in that regard.

Nor did he have to compete with the oil doped clubs, of course.

But this isn't a thread about Sugar v Levy, so let's leave it there.

A football supporter who also understands numbers. Very dangerous combination.
As I've always said, I strongly believe the way forward is for all the fans to unite and purchase the club, keeping Levy in his current position but with altered job brief.

The chairman would be sacked everytime we lose.

Just get the stadium built and see what happens from there. Sorry people but we will probably have to write off the next couple of seasons unless we get lucky in a cup. In fact Europa is probably the one we should concentrate next year. More money than Fa or League Cups and a chance of CL football.

If all Spurs' Twitter followers on average chipped in 600 pounds each, we would get there. But you are right, a few, well selected self regulating guide lines could be prudent. Like "don't call for a new manager more than 12 times a season", stuff like that.

I dont see the new stadium taking us on but merely keeping us around where we are that will have to be good enough as the others are out of our reach.

OK, I'll correct you. I didn't say a single thing about wanting a billionaire to take us over and never have.

What I hate is every time anyone criticises Levy we get people, talking about Sugar's era like it is the only thing we can compare Levy's time to.

Swansea have built excellent continuity and consistently punch above their weight because their chairman makes smart sensible decisions with his managers.

Money is a strong factor but not the only factor in success. I was understanding and forgiving of Levy when he messed up with the Jol firing and Ramos hiring. 7 years later and he's still making the same mistakes.

Levy has handled the financial side of the club very well and the investment in the club's structure is the direction we need to take.

But on the playing side we haven't developed a playing style as the managerial hirings are all over the place. Wenger developed a playing style for Arsenal quite quickly, Swansea have done the same despite regularly changing managers.

I feel as fans we should be able to discuss this without people telling us we forget about the Sugar ears or be accused of only wanting success regardless of how it is achieved.

I'm still not sure what you want?

Is it just someone "not Levy"?

Explains very thoroughly why we struggle to compete with the other top clubs

Really interesting article, thanks for sharing.

Shows how important the stadium is and also how irresponsible it was to spend near 100m on a load of average players (Eriksen aside) at this point in our development. With the academy looking like it's going to produce some real talent I'm hoping that we give youth a chance and dont go spending big fees on players (unless a real bargain presents itself obviously). Whether they become first team regulars or not we've shown the academy can also be a profit making machine which will help pay off the stadium quicker.

Not surprising that we are struggling to match the teams that have enjoyed Champions League for a much longer, had much more profile across much more of the globe (and the subsequent financial benefits that brings), generally with a bigger stadium, or with a Russian/Middle East oligarch.

We had a lot of catch up to do when Levy took over and we've made some progress. The final step was always going to be the biggest, and without a sugar daddy happy to spunk money on us that they'll never get back the only other way to make that jump fairly quickly was the spend beyond our means and hope to make it. That's not worked well long term for any club who has tried it - not only the likes of Leeds, but even a Liverpool have found it difficult.

The only way we can get there and stay there is through sensible, stable progression, get a good route to the first team for the talented youngsters we are producing thanks to our world class facilities, build up the infastructure, and hope the management team make good decisions, both with tactics/formations and player transfers. The first two points are being done, the third will hopefully under Pochettino.

Could have done it when we were listed. But the fans didn't do it.

Who said I wanted Levy out?

OK. So we agree?

This feels like one of those arguments I have with Stoofette, where I'm not sure whether we should have actually been arguing in the first place and then she won't actually answer any questions but instead I have to keep guessing until I get it right then get in trouble for not getting it right first time.

I think we agree in terms of wanting Levy to stay.
