Same team as today

100% this. Simples.

Nobody deserves to be dropped after the Burley game and we need to create momentum. Same team, same attitude, then sub off players if all is going to plan / or they are not performing.

3 days between games is plenty of rest.

It's not really that simple considering a number of our players are coming back from muscle injuries - Bale/Regi/Aurier. Whilst I agree with the sentiment i'm sure the sports science department will advise against some of the above playing for fear of them breaking down again and being out for longer period of time.

The team we player on Sunday was pretty much close to our strongest side and i'm sure Mourinho will be thinking he needs to keep as many of them fit for the run in as possible. Risking them when we have the possibility of rotation options could do more damage to our long term chances of finishing in the european spots if they are then out for the next 6-8 weeks.

Hojbjerg getting injured right at the end today was a real worry. Glad he came back on but I hope it doesn’t flare up later. We are screwed without him. I would rather recall Skipp than start Sissoko or Winks in his place.
GLC and Ndombele would do in that case, although not optimal they can at least contribute in both phases.

Sure, but they are all ok according to the physio / sports science team , then same again.

this is the first game ive looked forward to in a loooong time

And we wouldn't be true Tottenham supporters if that wasn't also our biggest concern. As the saying goes, it's the hope that kills you.

But I'm cautiously optimistic that we're now in the process of turning a very large corner :nailbiting:

I’d make one change from the Burnley game, that would be Dele for Lucas. Only reason being it’s a small pitch away, Lucas needs space to run, I just think a little bit more trickery from Dele could help us release the front three.

Would a back 3 consisting of Alderweireld, Sanchez (the lad has earned another start after Sundays display) and either of Rodon/Tanganga be worth considering?

Then allow Reguilon & Aurier to get on with what they do best & get forward?

I think we have to prioritise getting an understanding between a consistent back four, starting the same backline that started against Burnley.

This also means that formation shifts should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.

Nah we just are about to find some chemistry on the pitch. No need to try a system that basically has not worked for us on a regular basis since prime Rose and Walker/Tripps are gone

I agree, re consistent back line. But does it have to be a back 4?

I just wonder if we do somewhat have the personnel for a back 3

Again, I do agree. I'm just spit-balling and, in Aurier & Reguilon we have finally (somewhat) filled those gaping Rose/Walker holes.

Those saying about getting a settled defence, I honestly do agree, though.

On paper I think we absolutely do, as both Reguilon and Aurier has their strengths offensively. However, for one reason or another, it simply hasn't worked since the 16/17 season, most likely due to the personnel playing.

I think there is always more science in a back three than just Full backs. The FBs may be the key who need to contribute offensively and still track up and down, but I personally still think they can do that in a well organizend back 4 too. Hojbjerg then drops a bit deeper to cover. With a back 3 + Hojbjerg you would have four very defensive players centrally and you will miss a player further forward where the opponent parked their bus.

I am working with a coach in Germany who loves a 3 at the back and a CDM in front, though he says he needs CBs with an exceptional passing range to be flexible and reliable key in the build up. Also, he always wants one of his CBs to storm up front when there is a chance to cause trouble and bring movement into the offensive play. Last season he had the FBs he needed, but not the CBs, therefore he played a back 4 mainly.

Right now, I think our team feel they know best what they are doing in a 4-2-3-1.

That was a really well written & nicely appreciated response. Thank you.

Lots of calls for Moura to be dropped for Alli. He stays in the team for me this week again, as he has been scoring goals of late. (he scored one and should have scored another at the weekend - lovely skill to round the Burnley defender.)

We've been crying out for others to step up and score and he has. Interesting that this has coinciding with Alli getting closer to the starting 11.
