I think Townsend has the natural talent and he can be coached to improve.
We have a sort of stockholm syndrome to mediocrity at this club.
It's very odd.
He isn't a good decision maker. I don't think he has the highest football iq. IF he were to be coached to be a role player, doing one specific thing very well, I could see him becoming a good player. I think he would need every decision to be made for him though, he needs to have a gameplan that he cannot deviate from. I suspect that a strong manager could do this.I think Townsend has the natural talent and he can be coached to improve.
Milner is consistently average, with the odd game where he is poor.I think where we are in the food chain we have to accept some of our squad will be mediocre, the problem is these players currently seem to be inconsistent mediocre, not solid, makes me laugh when people say Milner is beneath us, he may not set the world alight but he rarely puts in a really poor display, i would take a few Milners over a few Lennon's.
We simply need a better balance, back up players for a Europa league team are never going to be world beaters, it's a real fine line and this is where a decent coach and some common sense plays it's role.

That is what I am saying. If he were coached properly, he could become a fine playerI half agree, I could be wrong but I think decision making can be learned with time and practice. I know they are not of the same ability, but Mr. Ronaldo went from doing a million step overs in blind alleys to becoming a world beater.
Exactly. I think Townsend is the worst of the bunch though. What end product???
Lennon and Townsend are as bad as each other!
Lennon, Townsend, Naughton, Rose, Dawson all need to be cleared out! Our English core are AWFUL!
I also think part of the problem with Dawson and Lennon, for me anyway, is that they may not be good enough anymore, but it's kinda hard to let go, I mean, they played a huge part in getting us from where we were, the beginnings of the Arneson/Jol era to where we are now. That involvement cannot be underestimated.I think where we are in the food chain we have to accept some of our squad will be mediocre, the problem is these players currently seem to be inconsistent mediocre, not solid, makes me laugh when people say Milner is beneath us, he may not set the world alight but he rarely puts in a really poor display, i would take a few Milners over a few Lennon's.

Naughton at RB is alot different than Naughton at LB. He's been better because he's been playing RB recently. At LB, he was still abysmal, for the most part. It's worrying that out of daws, naughton, rose and Townsend naughton has played better, for the most part.

Meh. Andros is already convinced he's the second coming of Bale. Now you wanna put him in Bale's position full time? That'll just make him more convinced and decidedly worse off.Lets not forget the swift development of our very own prodigal son, Bale, who went from being an unlucky and physically weak left back to being a powerful left winger and then was forced to develop when teams doubled up on him. Now hes part of that very top band of elite world class player.
If Townsend can be coached to be a left winger first, im certain he would be very effective. Cross first, shoot last!
He's stated that he isn't ready to move to Barcelona at this point in his career.apologies if this has already been mentioned but isnt the Barca job about to come up and isnt he a legend there?
@Jaesen1 mind explaining the doh on my opinion? Hate it when idiots don't clarify the reasons!
If I was Levy I wouldn't go anywhere near FDB after that press conference.
what press conference? If I was Levy I wouldn't go anywhere near FDB after that press conference.
The one where he told everyone we had made contact with him.what press conference?
If he was told to keep things quiet, he should keep things quiet and just speak about whether he will stay with Ajax or not. Why, Ajax fans have a duty to know.
