I'd be lying if I said that excited me that much. I have real issues with (my perception of) his attitude

Attitudes declined across the squad last season, particularly under Sherwood.
I'm still happy to give players a chance on that front & I was massively underwhelmed by Vertonghen last season.

We win either way, if Verts settles back in and clicks with MoPo then we have Verts, if he doesn't then we have a excellent central defender to sell in a market where David Luiz sells for £50,000,000

Jan has told us that he is open to signing a new contract. Negotiations started before the WC and look to be concluded before too long.

Personally I don't buy in to this whole 'his attitude is much worse than our other players' line that keeps cropping up. For me this would be great news.

For Poch to get the vote of confidence from likes of Eriksen, Lloris, Jan & Sandro would be a big boost for our club.

I hope both Jan & Sandro stay and sign new contracts. Somehow, I am more confident with Jan staying, than Sandro.

If we can keep all 4, that is a solid base to build from.

Barcelona had basically said that they've got agreements with 2 CBs already (one believed to be Mathieu) and I couldn't see Levy to agreeing to flogging Jan so amicably so had wondered if his agent was just trying to make his position stronger for negotiating a new deal.

He's a sulky sod at times (and no you don't need to be a body language expert to see that) but it is partly understandable and more importantly he's by a fair distance our best CB and perfect for Pochettino's system. Would be very relived to see him stay.

Lovely bit of info on Rojo and Verts from Rebrab. I like Rojo and I think we should cut Verts a bit of slack. We know what he's capable of and if he's a sensitive bloke (yes, they really do exist) then he may well have been very unsettled last year.

Agree. I find it funny how everyone is a fully trained body language expert when it comes to football players.
you don't have to be any type of expert to read body language, people do it all the time both consciously and sub consciously. It's part of human instinct to be able to read non verbal communication.

Two research studies (Mehrabian & Wiener, 1967 and Mehrabian & Ferris, 1967) combined resulted in the "55/38/7" formula, which suggests that 55% of communication is body language, 38% is the tone of voice, and 7% is the actual words spoken.

So humans, & not only experts, are actually very very good at decifering body language

I can't find anything on Rojo, what was said?

Having said that he Is a high profile player & like the Hugo contract it shows intent on our part

I would tend to agree, but I think as much as anything, he wasn't happy with the managerial situation last season and also being played out on the left (even though he seemed to play well there).
Really needs to knuckle down and just get on with things this season.

If Rebrab is right then we must be fairly confident on getting in a decent left back (e.g. Rojo). Jan wouldn't be overly enthusiastic about staying otherwise.

@jetsetyid @DeadlineDayLive Are we really being that stingy in regards to funds, surely we would have promised Poch better backing?

@TobyMinchin @DeadlineDayLive not being stingy

Which suggests that it's not a money issue- they simply do not want to leave. :( It's time to go lads.

We must have a very small transfer kitty if our incomings are dependent on the sale of Dawson and Sigurdsson.

Not entirely surprising I suppose but it's clear that people are going to have to be realistic about how much transfer activity we'll see this Summer.

As for the Vertonghen ITK I really hope that's right. Whilst he wasn't great last season, he's clearly a class act and if we can get him and Lloris to sign new contracts that's a very good sign that the players already have confident in what Poch wants to do.

Generally I think this window is going to be about getting the best out of our existing players, rather than bringing in boat loads of new players...and personally I think that's no bad thing.

I think the hold up on incomings is squad places and not the availability of funds.
