We must have a very small transfer kitty if our incomings are dependent on the sale of Dawson and Sigurdsson.

Not entirely surprising I suppose but it's clear that people are going to have to be realistic about how much transfer activity we'll see this Summer.

As for the Vertonghen ITK I really hope that's right. Whilst he wasn't great last season, he's clearly a class act and if we can get him and Lloris to sign new contracts that's a very good sign that the players already have confident in what Poch wants to do.

Generally I think this window is going to be about getting the best out of our existing players, rather than bringing in boat loads of new players...and personally I think that's no bad thing.

More likely to be that Levy would like to keep a relatively balanced wage bill. No point in paying players who aren't playing regularly! Last thing we want/need is a bloated squad and then to potentially have a couple of players start moaning about not being picked.

I sort of see Dawson's point in not wanting to leave. After all, AVB wanted rid and he dug his heels in to prove a point and for a while it worked.
However, we must have set a PL record for defensive individual errors resulting in goals and that's what needs patching up asap.

I think what is being implied by JJ is that the incomings are dependant on outgoings because of the quantity of players and squad places rather than being stingy in regards to transfer funds...

And then he said:

@jetsetyid @DeadlineDayLive Are we really being that stingy in regards to funds, surely we would have promised Poch better backing?

The original JJetset‏@jetsetyid Protected Tweets
@TobyMinchin @DeadlineDayLive not being stingy

Which suggests that it's not a money issue- they simply do not want to leave. :( It's time to go lads.
Get the feeling it's more about squad places and numbers of players. No point in having far too many players - not good for morale to have unwanted and unhappy players around the place.

I would think its more to do with squad size than finances. Levy wouldn't have senior players on senior player wages at the club and not in the squad. Its throwing money away.

Jan has told us that he is open to signing a new contract. Negotiations started before the WC and look to be concluded before too long.

This seems almost unbelievable. Jan looked so disinterested and he would be where the smart money was if you were predicting outgoings.

Would love this to be true. But find it hard to believe. Having said that, I thought the same with Hugo.

If we are skint or have a tiny budget then we are fucked with regards next season

City and Chelsea were always out of reach but now Liverpool have got a windfall, Van Gaal has almost unlimited funds and Arsenal are buying world class players, if we just stick with what we have then we will be 6th or 7th and light years behind those teams

If Levy wants a good deal on naming rights for the stadium then we need a squad that can make CL

Sigurdsson is deluded if he thinks he'll be a regular next season.

As I said in the Gylfi thread I really can't see Pochettino being so generous this time. He's been very lucky to start the amount of games he has done for us over the likes of Lamela, Holtby & Chadli. If we bring another left winger in as well then he's got no chance.

I don't think he'll play because he's not good enough for us. He's not a poor player but it's the harsh truth.

As for the transfer kitty, of course it has an effect. Daniel Levy will make sure we spend what we earn once again.

Press reports say that Dawson wants 4 years at Hull and not the 3 offered. I'm sure that's what's holding that one up.

Someone like Dawson will clearly want to finish his career with us and cling on for dear life as he's settled and doesn't want to uproot his family for the first time in 10 years.

Perhaps we'll just have to make it glaringly obvious and leave him an unused sub for all the pre-season games in the States. He'd then get the message, although that wouldn't be the best way for Poch to announce his arrival :ROFLMAO:

I'm fine with Gylfi staying on, putting in a fight. You may say a lot of things about what Spurs is or is not. But one thing I'm certain of, Spurs is yet not a good enough club not to embrace player who wants to fight for it. I welcome Gylfi's attitude, and I hope it pays off for him.

Our squad is bloated with too many mediocre players. We need to make it blatantly clear to Dawson and Sigurdson that they have no future here.

I think the hold up on incomings is squad places and not the availability of funds.
Yea that's spot on, just what I was gonna say, you don't want to bring in a centre half if one that's already on 65k a week (guess) decides he's staying
