Like I've said in the Daws thread, for me, he's earned the right to stay and fight for his place. And I also think he'd be a perfect fourth choice. Love the club, a leader, and a really good guy to have in the lockerroom.

This seems almost unbelievable. Jan looked so disinterested and he would be where the smart money was if you were predicting outgoings.

Would love this to be true. But find it hard to believe. Having said that, I thought the same with Hugo.

If nobody has shown any real interest in buying him during the WC, and we're offering to increase his wages while he's here, then why not sign a new deal? If they change their mind they can always go on strike. Cynical, but it's how all players seem to think nowadays.

He has been a good servant for us but there is no room for sentiment, as clearly as day he does not fit into Poch's system

With our injury record as well not bad to have an experienced cover who is just happy to be here

If they are refusing to go, let them stay at home while rest are on tour. Won't get a bigger hint than that! Take them and they will think there is a chance of staying!

We really shouldn't do that to a guy who has done everything he can for us for almost ten years. Extremely unworthy.

Yeah- Dawson
Can't fault his attitude but for the love of god players like him & Lennon need to be replaced and upgraded. Man Utd have kept too many club men around and suffered because of it. Unless you are provably top class, there's no room for sentiment here. By definition, they're still here whereas our top class players have eventually moved on.

Anyone who is a target for Hull or QPR or similar is unnecessarily taking up a place.

In the same way though I guess Utd couldn't have looked upon Vidic and Ferdinand in the same way. Unfortunately like it or not Dawson is an average premier League defender with limitations. We need to look to improve.

Good for them!

This response generated dislikes and disagrees in regards to Siggy and Daws wanting to stay.

Both seem to be honest, hard working and committed characters- while we always want to upgrade players and these two are seemingly two of the weaker (in regards to ability) in the squad it is also refreshing to know in some ways that there are players that are loyal who want to fight for their place.

We scream about the lack of loyalty shown to us in football in general by 'overpriced, overpaid, ego driven, detached' players when they want to further their career. We feel they owe us something, maybe even if it is just respect which I don't disagree with the majority of the time.

However, as fans we show loyalty to the Club (most of the time), but exercise little loyalty to the players. Disliking the fact that a player such as Dawson wants to fight for his place instead of making easy money somewhere else is strange. We insult those we don't feel have the quality for us, we want to ship out the majority of last years signings because they didn't become world beaters in a transitional season.

Our idea of loyalty seems strangely misplaced on occasion, or at least we regard loyalty by players towards us as a completely different kettle of fish to our loyalty towards them.

Thank you!! I was dismayed at the reaction to my post. I should have explained it like you did but I thought people would assume what I meant, which you've done!

Agree.

However I think a lot of people don't see it as Dawson or Siggy being loyal but instead see it as them wanting to stay because it won't get better for them and won't be playing at such a high level again, so instead of praising them for wanting to fight and stay they slay them telling them to fuck off.

Disagree with this point. None of last years signings should be sold, and I don't see a huge amount of people saying that. Seems like you are making a statement based on a couple of comments and not the general consensus. I personally think all will be much better after their initial season and now with a proper manager.

If you look at the Paulinho and Chadli threads in threads in particular since Christmas, and also numerous comments in Soldados over last season then it becomes less far fetched....

I'm also basing this on the absurd comments by those who sit around me at the Lane...

Also, just to make clear, it is not MY personal opinion that they should be sold.

It's been said a comical amount of times in the last few pages, but I too think this is about squad places. We desperately need a CB and a LB, and we already have too many midfielders. The way I see it, daws, BAE, and sig need to go to accommodate those two signings and balance out the squad. Further incomings will be more like upgrading where can. Great to here rojo is on the radar, looks a quality player, think he covers both are needed positions too.

Surely it's more disrespectful stripping Dawson of the captaincy and giving him a token run out against fucking Tromso away than being able to play regular first team football at a Premier League club?

Sigurdsson is a quality player who can force his way into the side. It would be an uphill battle for him, but he is technically gifted and seems to work hard, so I could see him trying to get on Poch's good side. If we play a 4-2-3-1, he would be the obvious back up for Eriksen, which would provide him with a decent amount of games. Especially since Holtby should be pushed back into a deeper role.

As for Dawson, I won't complain if he stays as a 4th choice, because he has more heart than anybody else in the side. However, he just doesn't seem to fit the system and he isn't as good as our other choices/our transfer targets. Last time we tried to sell him, he worked his ass off and earned his spot back, so I'll always respect that, but this time it's probably right to let him go.

And hopefully that latest ITK is accurate, I would for Vertonghen to sign another contract. Him and Lloris can lead our defense for years to come. Especially with good players like Walker and Chirches with them and if we're lucky, maybe even an actual LB too!

Right now Dawson is a better choice than Eunice or Vlad and for that matter Verts on one of his can't be arsed days

I'm glad to hear he may be staying, Siggy not so much, but we can't expect loyalty from players if we try and push players out the door, particularly players that have been great club servants over the years

The thing about Daws is even if we brought in a top CB he'll still fight for his place, won't complain and give 100 pc every time he gets a chance, right now over the squad we lack any depth of character, drive, desire and leadership, getting rid of Daws would reduce that and be just dumb imo

If you really want to give them a hint then maybe travelling everywhere by bus emblazoned with "Yid Army" on a pre-season tour of Iraq, Gaza & Syria might be more effective .

Individual player threads do seem to attract people wanting to have a pop generally, particularly if they have just had a bad game or two and emotions can take over at the games. Still think the majority want them given a chance. Paulinho and chadli are the two that do need to pull their socks up if they want a future here though.
