Regarding the latest info I would guess that Davies LB, Remy or J Rod LWF, and ether Lovren or Rojo for CD. Hector M would probably have been second choice after Lovren but I can't see us spending larg amounts on a player who is seriously injured.

Not exactly inspiring targets especially as we'll be priced out of the lovren deal, poch's gonna need to be the real deal from the off if we've any pretensions of challenging for 4th

Yeah our targets seem to be alot less exhilirating than last summer - Remy, Lovren, Rodriguez. Is it simply because there less of an unknown quantity than the likes of Lamela, Chadli, Chiriches, Capoue etc were last year.

I'm quite content with only slight squad tinkering - but can see others being very underwhelmed. We need stability though after last summer and the spells of AVB and Sherwood.

100% agree, i would be more then happy if we brought in Davies and Rojo and i wouldn't be against Remy or J Rod as rotation options but i really think we should spend a bit and get a really good left winger in. Its been a problem area for a few years now and every season we always fail to rectify it. I really feel that a high quality winger, or at least one that has the potential to become one, should be as important as sorting out our defence. I just don't think Remy or J Rod should be considered as the sole answer for that position.

Harry Kane will have a big year I think
Another reason why we shouldn't be spending large amounts on a new striker. We have a good set of forwards and unless Ade go's to Monaco i don't see the need to bring in another whilst we have more pressing issues such as defence and LW.

Tbh, we have no chance of 4th as imo our squad can't compete with City, Chelsea or Liverpool and United and Arsenal will undoubtedly strengthen. I'm ok with that though as my expectation has been lowered. Provided we play better football and become more competitive against the top sides again, I'll be content for the time being.

Manolas, that Greek youngster is who we should be buying, not chucking 15- 20 mill at Lovren. IMHO, Lovren didn't look anything special for Croatia in the World Cup.

we did have a fairly good left winger. unfortunatley we sold him for a world record fee. agree we need a shiny new one though.

We desperately need a new striker. Ade's prone to throwing a wobbler and going walkabout (done it pretty much every season since he left Arsenal). Soldado failed big time last season. I personally think he's a very good player but we can't afford for him to be a dud next season. I also like Kane but it is unfair to expect him to deliver 10-15 goals next season. With only Eriksen contributing goals from midfield (not counting Sig), we have a serious lack of players that we can rely on for goals. A proven, preferably premier league striker (Lukaku or Bony) is a must. We also need a goal scoring left sided winger/forward.

Look at Liverpool, Sturridge, Suarez and Sterling all contributed. Whereas as Lamela was injured, and Chadli, Lennon and Townsend couldn't hit a barn door.

He is, but has he thrown one with us? From what little has emerged about his falling-out with Villas-Boas it appears the Bearded Wonder was at least 50% to blame (let's face it, if it really was over Ade wearing a beanie to training, as one version has it, the guy had to be seriously insecure to make a massive deal of that). If he needs his ego massaged a little a manager with any sense will massage it (and bloody hell, a lot of people wanted Berbatov back in January, and he caused us far more grief than Ade has). We definitely meed back up, though—even if Soldado recovers to the extent that he totters into double figures, like Pavlyuchenko in his second season, it won't be anywhere near enough.

If you don't think he is ITK then ignore it...

I'm not knowledgeable enough to judge if somebody can be branded as an ITK :). If I recall correctly his stuff was being ridiculed by quite large amount of users here a couple weeks ago, that's all ;).

I can't see us being 4th either doesn't mean we shouldn't give ourselves the best chance of it we can. We need to show people like lloris we have that ambition or what's the point of him hanging around

Man Utd will have a lot of players to integrate, Liverpool too by the looks of it. Arsenal look like they are strengthening but they haven't bought yet... I agree City and Chelsea are way ahead of us but its perfectly possible the other three could have mixed seasons (especially Liverpool - lots of pressure on Sturridge if the bitey one goes..)

I'm not getting giddy and optimistic but IF last years signings are bedded in and Poch works out then top 4 could happen. We didn't suddenly become Aston Villa last year.

Yeah I agree, but we've seen it before haven't we? We can't/won't invest what it takes to bridge the gap, unless we sell one of our stars. And even when we did that last season I don't think we spent the money wisely.

I'm not that enthused by the names being linked either, although I'll be happy if we sign Remy. At least the manager seems to know the main areas of weakness, which is a start.

Agree. If anything I think a decent bid for Soldado and he'd be off and we'd look at Bony/Remy seriously.

So is the Davies deal actually 100% happening, or are they still looking for more then what had been agreed in principle, as was reported?

I think it's more a case of Sig scores some important goals but is anonymous the majority of the time and other than his shooting ability he offers very little else. Whereas Paulinho undoubtedly has quality and talent way beyond Sig and with an actual coach who uses tactics, he can develop into a more consistent performer for us.
What about pressing? His pressing is very good, he changed the game against Southampton through pressing high up the pitch, putting the defenders and midfield under pressure. A point that might not be lost on our new manager.

Love the ITK on Davies, makes a mockery out of ManU paying a gazillion for a LB.

Sad to see Siggy go as I really like him but he was never given a chance at his preferred spot, he was never a left winger but with Eriksen, Lamela et al he wont get a go at AM so good luck to him.

Having said that, how many times do we hear about swap deals, they never come off.
And what is his preferred position? He has been very average whatever position he played IMO. A squad player at best, again my opinion. I would not lose any sleep if and when he goes to be honest.

Did I dream that Bale recently played for Spurs?
