There is a big difference between paying 17 million for a Brazilian midfielder and paying 25 million for a Belgian striker who has had handful of games and one good season in the premiership. England were up and coming once, remember the golden generation? They didn't do shit and I don't think Belgium will either. The pressure of playing for Brazil, is completely different from playing for Belgium, the two don't compare really.

Maybe, maybe not. I don't have a crystal ball, so I cannot see into the future on how Belgium are going to perfom in the coming years. What I do know is that for an extra 8m pounds on top of what we have paid for Pauline, we are getting a strike (which are at a premium anyway) who scored what, 19 PL goals in his first season, so has experience and is young. For me it's a chance worth taking.

However, i like Benteke, you don't like Benteke, which is perfectly fine, you don't have to like him, so we are never going to agree here.

I like Benteke. Like rully a lot. Just don't see DL ponying up £25m for him though nor do I see Villa dropping their price.

I don't dislike him, I would just like to see how he performs in his second season, when defenders have got more used to him. I also personally don't believe that Levy will smash our transfer record to bring him in, Levy doesn't take 25 million pound chances.

Selling a striker before you get one in first is a risky business, just remember Campbell.

Absolutely. I still don't quite believe a deal to ship Ade would be so close to completion, and still away from the mainstream media. But if it is really true, then maybe it makes Benteke (or anyone else!) more likely to happen before the last few days of the window.

I just think Bentekes camp must have some indication that Levy is prepared to get close to what Villa want, or he's going to end up rotting at Villa. Or Villa will wait until the dippers have sold Suarez.

I agree, I can see it being 20-22m?
Maybe. There'll be add ons though I bet. If Benteke does turn out to be truly mustard, Villa will get their £25m.

Even when skint they didn't bend over when asking for a fee for their players. Even the really shit ones like Downing and Milner.

Hardly far-fetched is it? Maybe we have indicated we want Benteke to his people. Much like Real did to Modric. Means fuck all to us though. Pay up or fuck off.

Yep, and to be fair I think Villa should hold out for what they can get. We would be going kerazzzzzzzzzzy if this was Bale doing this.

Of course Villa will drop their price. They aren't going to keep him.

I think this is where Lambert might need to make his mark with Lerner in that he'd rather have the money to spend now than eke this transfer saga out up until 31st August.

Of course there is the stance Villa need to take in not being rolled over by the poaching clubs but if it is indeed inevitable, which it seems is the case now, then I reckon a deal circa £18million will be struck and more importantly, before the first game of the new campaign.

Question is, with who?!
