Would be quite funny at least. Pulling up to Emirates with Troy boy up top bring it on.

TBF, he doesn't fit the 21-25 year old range that has been described by ITK. We could just take him on to be a 3rd striker, assuming (I know, I know) that we're still getting someone else... and given our injury problems over the last couple of years, not a bad idea. And since he's HG, it wouldn't be a lot different than having an underage HG player as a third keeper, except you wouldn't worry about lack of game time for a 32-year-old squad player.

Absolutely nothing in here says we're actively trying for or wanting Deeney. If anything it's really just a declaration that he's at best plan G and we would only move if everything else failed at the end of the window. People on here just let their pessimism get the better of them.

That said, Welcome Deeney.

Better than nothing. Worse than some others we are chasing. at the beginning of the window if you'd have told me he was who we were going to end up with I'd have been ok with it. Not thrilled, not pissed. His hatred of the goons makes it worth it, imo.

That said, I have to believe he's the "one we know we can sign if the others don't come off" on the list.

Would prefer nobody than be stuck with him on the books when funds are so limited. My Watford season ticket pals thinks it’s hilarious that we may be interested in him. That’s all I need to know about Deeney.

Must be strange Watford fans then. He's one of the main reason they've stayed in the PL last few seasons. There's gratitude for you.

I could handle the “he’s old and shit, but he is homegrown” for Hart, because he should hopefully barely ever play for us - but our back up striker needs to be able to actually play football, not somebody that moves like Minecraft Steve imo.

Exactly. So bored of those who seem to derive a perverse kind of satisfaction from every morsel of negative or underwhelming news - or even every wholly baseless rumour, for that matter. They leap on each and every one with alacrity - like some kind of confirmation bias comfort food.

I just don't get why anyone would want to be like that.

Troy Deeney is nothing special but he is consistent, proven in the league and gives us something different. So for the position meh, why not?

I know some people want a super good player here, or at least a player they've never watched play but sounds exciting. Personally. I think the role is important but also think the position is really a 3rd choice/option. Now with the big season ahead of us it's definitely an important signing. But I'm not expecting anyone special or remotely exciting.

Really wouldn't tie in with what Jose was saying earlier about a striker coming in and not feeling he was just ' a back up' and not just to 'support the team'. That's literally what Deeney would do.

I think people undervalue Deeney. He's a hard bastard, leader, and is basically just a no-nonsense typical 90s-type English striker. The Harry Redknapp type of football player - one that people would turn their nose up at, but would be very effective.

I'd sooner Deeney than someone like Milik to be honest, because Deeney is at least PL proven and puts 100% in. I just couldn't see Deeney being a problem, whereas even Janssen was a PITA when he played crap and seemed to be blaming everyone for his form and asking for a move when he'd not earnt his fee or his place.

To be clear, I don't see us being in for him, but at the same time I prefer him over a number of other options we've been linked to.
