You don’t think Kane can hack playing both Sunday and Thursday?

I think a large percentage of fans actually have no idea about fatigue/over playing. As you rightly surmise, at this stage of the season, a fit and healthy man can play football once every 3 or 4 days without a problem. After doing that for several months, that wouldn't necessarily still be the case.

Totally agree. If you exclude the League Cup games we play Sunday, Thursday, Sunday, Thursday, Monday, Thursday. Do we need to race through a player for in effect 2 League Cup games (a competition we are likely to play a very understrength team in anyway, especially Rd 4), or wait to bring in the right player (for medium to long, not just very immediate short term) by end of transfer window.
We have never panic bought (arguably Sissoko aside), even when down to bare bones in certain positions through injuries.

We definitely need to be able to rotate across the season. At this point, assuming it’s going to bea very changed side v O’s/ Plymouth, I believe we can do without a rushed striker signing so long as we’re chipping away at the right striker signing.

Exactly my point.

If we go into the season with our squad as it is, we could in theory play have these two match day squads for PL/EL and league cup respectively (and I’m assuming Lo Celso and Tanganga will continue to be unavailable).

Lloris
Doherty Alderweireld Dier Davies
Højbjerg Winks
Bergwijn Dele Son
Kane

Hart Sanchez Sessegnon Sissoko Ndombele Lamela Lucas

and

Hart
Aurier Sanchez Carter-Vickers Cirkin
Sissoko Gedson
Lamela Ndombele Sessegnon
Lucas

Gazzaniga Dier Davies Højbjerg White Bergwijn Son

Now obviously there may be more injuries, we may sell of sign players, but nothing will happen so drastic to prevent us being fresh in both the PL and EL at this stage, that signing a striker in a rush will mitigate.

Even in this current climate the best the club can do is Deeney then we should be very afraid.

Probably something that would happen towards the last knocking's of the window if all else fails. Wouldn't be surprised if at the beginning of the window the club were hoping they could get a Wilson or Watkins on a good deal in the current climate. Probably been spooked by the fee's those two have gone for and having to reevaluate things somewhat. King is also probably on the list somewhere.

Troy Deeney is like that car in the rear view mirror of that edition of Top Gear .... He's just going to be there until the final embers of the transfer window die ... & with it our hopes and dreams ...

You're right - he'll be the 2020 version of a Frazer Campbell signing - he's available, cheap and is exactly who I expect us to sign at the last knockings

Could easily see Deeney in on loan as well as another younger striker - not as the ONLY striker signing. Wouldn't be adverse to that at all tbh.

Yup, all the loose links we're getting, the 'were interested in but chose to move onto other targets' in the press, feels eerily similar.

Still a long way to go in this window. I don’t overly mind the clubs having contingencies in the way they didn’t seem to under the last manager.
