Why does Modric get higher ratings via SC polls compared to the media/pundits?

SUN STAR MAN - RAFAEL VAN DER VAART (Spurs)

Spurs: Gomes 6, Hutton 7, Kaboul 5, Gallas 5, Assou-Ekotto 7, Bentley 6, Huddlestone 6, Modric 6, Bale 7, Van der Vaart 8, Pavlyuchenko 5 (Crouch 6). Subs Not Used: Cudicini, Jenas, Palacios, Bassong, Kranjcar, Corluka. Booked: Bentley, Gomes.

Looking at the match ratings regarding SC when it comes to Modric, they never seem to match pundits ratings systems.

People in the Sunderland rating threads were giving Modric 7 or 8 on average and gave him the MOTM in a landslide via the poll.

One forumite, out of all of the ratings gave Modric a 6. So only one agreed with the Sun rating of Modric.

All the rest were 7's and 8's. Most gave him MOTM. And words like "Cracking game", "All heart", "Ran the show" etc being used.

My question is this: In general, is SC overdoing the Modric ratings?

Serious question, not a wind up, because I may be guilty of going in the opposite direction. I know the MOTM is biased because it has to be a Spurs player, and not the op in the SC polls, but still: In reality media, pundits, opta, motm awards, prem player of the month awards never reflect the SC polls. Why is this? Is every single football journo, player commentator, opta rating index etc that lazy/clueless? All of them?

Maybe some fans over-rate performances from Spurs but the Media also under-rate performances and generally don't pay attention to the game and just focus on scoring and assists.

So people who are paid to watch us play, don't pay attention? Every time?

It also depends on how you look at the game, playmakers really just pass the ball and nothing else to some people whilst other's see how they play people in and make them active and control the tempo

It took years before xavi got the credit he deserves, whereas the media here are saying huddlestone shouldn't be in the england team cause he doesn't score enough goals, same thing with carrick 3/4 years ago, he never scored enough according to the media whereas gerrard and lampard can pass and score

Pundits give Modric praise about his passing/role. But it is usually polite golf clap compared to SC ratings.

I agree Hud should not be in the England team. I recall Carrick getting praise from the media during his Spurs stint.

Carrick was sold to Man Utd for less than we paid for Modric.

If Jenas plays well one half, and disappears the second, he does not get 8 out of 10's and MOTM. On SC. Modric does. My question is why?

I totally agree with you about carrick but when he supposedly went up a level to united he didn't score enough according to the media and united fans

And unless someones knows the clauses, we don't know how much we got for carrick

Ironically, Steed actually won the Sun Star player award when he played opposite Modric when they beat us 3-1. He didn't score or get an assist in that game, yet they took notice of his performance.

Really? I've not heard that one from you before?

And from the Sun? I'd say Modric is well jealous. Everyone wants to be the star man in the Sun's rating's these days. They are the only ratings that matter, after all.

Pity really, maybe we should offer Luka in a swap deal plus 10million to bring Steed. Or not.

Welcome back Gibbsy.

Personally I love the little man. Comparing the SC ratings to the Sun ratings is a little daft though. The Sun clearly, every single week, vote for the flashiest performer on the pitch or the player with highest reputation. I don't think that too many people would say that VdV was the star man in the last game and SC love him too.

For me Modric has been excellent lately. He has been getting on the ball more, he always finds space, he ghosts past players and he plays with his head up. His performance against Inter was absolutely outstanding, he really was the best player on the pitch even if Bale took the plaudits. He is definitely not a player who is going to grab the headlines every week, but he definitely has been performing every week.

How do you explain when they gave it to Malbs the previous time he played against Modric? They gave him the star man award, 8 out of 10 and he didn't score, didn't create an assists and isn't a vogue player.

I agree Modric has played well recently. By his standards. Not by the standards of usual Star players.

Second half he was useless pretty much, so many misplaced passes, I stopped counting. All he did was play on the left where Bale was, maybe that was part of the master game plan - pass it to Bale so he can cross it to Crouch - whatever it was but the right side felt isolated, and part of it was that he was intentionally drifting to the left most of the time.

The Sun's 'Star Man' rating, or playing Champions League football...

It's got to be such a hard choice for poor Luka. :-(

You actually count misplaces passes during a game? You are a sad fucker.

Actually, I'm convinced this is chaps is Gibbs as well, or his brother.

Why are your Modric average SC score figures incorrect? Modric is 7.xx via SC average. There was only one 6  Another point proven about a bias edging towards Modders.

Apart from VDV is a large statment BTW.

BAE should have won more MOTM via SC if you go by the pundit ratings. Their scores also indicate Bale had a higher average than Modric between the 2 pundit polls.
