Jan Vertonghen Signs

Just came across some stats that make very pleasant reading:

In Ajax's six matches in the UEFA Champions League last season, Vertonghen hit on average 85 passes per game, with an accuracy rate of 92 percent. He also hit on average seven accurate long balls each match

Such passing stats compare equally with the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Xabi Alonso, Yaya Toure, etc.

Vertonghen's passing is superior to any Tottenham defender, gives him the versatility to play defensive midfield and will be of huge benefit to Villas-Boas' game plans.

On Sunday they said "subject to medical" so essentially he's signed unless he fails the medical. We're just waiting for news that he's passed that but for all intents and purposes we've signed him.

That's odd. Ajax sources have already claimed that he has passed his physical and there's also this:

Nothing odd about it. Whenever we've said 'subject to a medical' in our announcement, we've not gone on to give a second announcement of 'medical passed'. He's here, he's ours, move along.

Spurs announce the completion of the Vertonghen transfer

I don't know what's happened in the past but usually the player is playing for us within a few days which negates the need, that's if they don't do the medical first

That was in the paper yesterday so its probably a couple of days old. OS says its done & they're all celebrating with a nice cuddle...
