I wouldn't want to go into a serious negotiation with some of you lot on my team.

We'd end up caving in to all the other party's demands!

You need balls of steel and you have to have the courage to walk away if the deal isn't right for you.

If Valencia blink first, great.

If not, we move on to other targets and avoid stretching our budget beyond what we can afford.

Wonder if any of them have bought a house or car?

judging from this thread they are all about 13yo. ;)

Too much conflicting reports coming out at the moment so we all need to take a step back and chill.

Plenty of deals have appeared 'dead' only to be 'revived' shortly later and concluded with relative ease - it's far from being dead in the water this one but I think we may need to be patient as hard as that is right now.

Franco Baldini returns to London without agreement, as today advances our print edition

But does he have face like deer face?.... And more to the point, is he on form Bruvs?...

Looks like we have a new one to add to the list gents ;)

Lets not panic yet. Every ITK has indicated it's close. Heck, even AVB has come out about him, don't remember the transfer for Benteke having this air of the imminent.

I've been saying that Levy is a twat for years. Hopefully some of you that blindly praise him with comments like "in Levy we trust" might start to quotation that.

So you've been saying he's a twat during the time he's taken us from dreadful football and midtable finishes to good football, and Europe every year , from Andy Booth on loan to trying to sign one of the most coveted forwards in European football. What has Daniel Levy ever done for us eh?

This is exactly what every news outlet wants, deal is on, deal is off, on again, maybe, bid lowered, bid upped, add-ons, part exchanges blah blah blah *MORE HITS ON MY INTERNET SITE PLEASE, MORE PAPERS SOLD PLEASE*

Fucking hell, this may happen, this may not happen - deals are complex, they go back and forth, you have your 2 clubs, agents, lawyers ad infinitum - fuck me even Football Manager deals aren't that simple anymore, just signing on an U14 kid to play for my team next season is hassle in itself so why do people think it's as simple as Levy rocking up and asking for Soldado like me just about to go get a burrito on my lunch break.

Pre season = no unnecessarily lost points in August = Champions League more likely :)

Its obviously in our best interest to get the deal done as quickly as possible, but theres no reason for Valencia to be forced into selling their player for less than agreed hours earlier.

Negotiation unfortunately takes time.

If our bid is rejected, during the meeting we're not immediately going to say 'oh alright have another million. Rejected again you say? Ok how about another million?'

We will go away, there will be a bit of thinking time for both parties before one of the sides comes back with another proposal. Nature of the beast.

All the signs point towards a deal being close. We all knew deep down the deal wouldn't be completed quickly; its Daniel Levy and its his record purchase!

Thats great when we are the only serious contenders

Liverpool want him badly according to suggestions plus Arsenal need a striker having lost out on Higuain

If we've lowered the deal due to them signing the replacement that's a low move. Going to make them more reluctant to deal with us and potentially Soldado less keen for him to come to us given we're trying to fuck over his long term club. Hope it's not true
Yeah agree... if we are playing hadball over our original offer and not upping it (maybe even because they have confirmed a new striker), then fine... why should we!? In business you do have to be hard and even ruthless....

BUT If we lowered our offer (and I am not sure I believe we did), then I would be pissed, as that is the kinda thing that blows your chances of signing not just that player, but others too. Word spreads, DL is already knows as a hard negotiator and will undoubtedly have people immediately going on the defensive before we even start. Hard but fair is fine, Hard turning into ruthless dick is NOT.

To be honest I don't believe it, I think the rumour has come about due to us not upping an offer.

Mate of mine has done numerous property deals with levy and says he only starts negotiating when you've shaken hands and everyone thinks the deal is done, people are moving house etc. That's when he lowers the price, once people are committed. Also you have to check the contracts with a fine tooth comb because the money in writing will often be different to what you agreed and they'll try and get you to sign without you noticing.

I know someone who did a lot of business with Levy and despite saying Levy is a tough negotiator, has never accused him of anything like this and in fact was praising of him as a decent guy to do business with.

I guess the fact that Soldado had reportedly agreed terms puts us in a position in which we should still look to make it happen.

madrid spur on ftl:

Deal is not dead at all.

Valencia want to maximise the deal, and are looking for, in their eyes a littel more in the cash part. Our offer is close enough that an agreement will be made.

Soldado has agreed terms in principle and when the agreement is made between clubs (expected to be this aftrenoon tomorrow morning) the rest will move quickly.

Yup. This feels more Lloris and Paulinhoesque. Soldado will be ours no matter what because Levy does what he wants :sneaky:

No. It was claimed by their chairman when trying to save face that he did and if that was really the case do you really believe Lloris would be playing for us now. I don't.

Rossi is the one he is meant to have done it with back about a year before we ended up going back in with that alleged bid of around 30m
