Most of us are in agreement that we at least need to know what our best first XI is...

What's yours? I have no idea... I think I would like to see something like.

Lloris

Walker Chiriches Vertonghen Rose

Sandro Dembele

Lamela Adebayor Eriksen

Soldado

Although it would rely heavily on Walker and Rose providing the width.

So maybe something like

Lloris

Walker Chiriches Vertonghen Rose

Sandro

Lennon Paulinho Eriksen Townsend

Soldado

But then we are missing Lamela, who in my opinion is the player with by far the most talent/ppotential.

Good luck to the new guy!

I'm thinking that if you are going to start another thread like this then you should probably take responsibility for it by assimilating the results after a period of time and presenting them to us.

Oh look, 2p...[busy now]

Almost a pointless question as it completely depends on the opposition, but based on the ability of the players (although not necessarily whilst they've been at Spurs) for home games against 'weaker' teams I'd like to see:

Lloris

Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Rose

Sandro Dembele

Eriksen

Lamela-------------------Chadli

Soldado

I think that although neither Lamela or Chadli have hit the ground running, they offer more of a goal threat than Lennon or Townsend, and with natural full backs behind them we don't have to worry so much about width.

Eriksen should have enough stability behind him in Sandro and Dembele to operate freely and be the creative force and between him and Lamela they should really supply Soldado with enough.

But some of the players left out of that team would be fine to include in most games as well. Capoue, Holtby, Chiriches, Lennon, Townsend and Sigurdsson are all excellent players which is what makes the concept of a 'best xi' quite tricky.

Dawson in the high line = Bad
Dawson in a proper defensive system = Good

But is Dawson in a 'proper defensive system' better than Kaboul or Ciriches?

I don't think so.

And I'm not sure I even agree that Dawson is good in a 'proper defensive system'.

I do. Purely because I haven't seen Kaboul play properly for about a year and a half, and Ciriches looks somewhat hap hazard to me... very good at last ditch blocks/tackles in situations that were otherwise preventable. But then again it may be that the system was what led to those instances in his case as well as Dawson, and may well prove to be even better without that high line nonsense. But for now I'll go with experience and knowing how good Dawson is as a traditional CB.

Swap Carroll for Sandro, stick Lamela on the right, Eriksen in the middle and Townsend on the left and that's the team.

Lamela was being trained to be an AMC by Roma iirc, he was only put on the right because Totti plays in the centre and if you want to be a success at Roma you give Totti anything he wants.

Anything.

City play 4411 when I have watched them but it is very fluid.

Well I guess you could say Aguero and Negredo interchange, but the way they played against Arsenal was with Fernandinho and Toure in midfield with Nasri and Silva more advanced forward, Aguero the more withdrawn of the two strikers.

4-2-2-1-1, 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1 whatever really. Maybe Lamela or Eriksen can be the 1 behind the striker.

Swap Adebayor for Townsend, then switch positions with Eriksen.

I'd recall bae... As rose clearly isn't fit

Lloris
Walker, vald, verts , rose/ bae

Sandro
Holtby, paulinho

Lamela Erikson
Soldado

And just add my two bits worth..
Dawson, naughton and Townsend shouldn't be anywhere near first team squad. Dawson's done, naughton isn't good enough and Townsend isn't any good

Looking at these formations highlights the need for a central midfielder play-making dynamo; basically the role which Modric played fro us.

Could Eriksen, Holtby, Paulinho or even Dembele be that guy?

I'm not sure, but I think we definitely need someone in that role.

Interesting to see so many pick Kaboul over Vlad. I really get the feeling Kaboul is done for and Vlad seems to get better almost every time is see him. Vlad and Jan in the centre for me.

I'd love to see something like this against weaker opposition, both at home and away. Ditch all of the "steel" and try to emulate Arsenal with numerous creative player's in the side. Holtby and Paulinho are strong enough to not get run over by the bottom half of table clubs. You could bring Sandro/Dembele on in the second half for Adebayor to close up shop if we can grab a lead.

Walker Chiriches Vertonghen Rose

Holtby Paulinho

Eriksen
Lamela Soldado Adebayor

In truth I have no idea what our best 11 is. I think maybe with the right coach and some different formations tried out we will find out. I do think we have a lot of decent players and a few I hope will be top class
