This is because Rose is an athlete, and not a footballer. His value to the side is that pace and strength to chase down opponents on the break. But he's a dreadful footballer, and after said defensive work he gets his blood up too easily and too frequently.

Couldv'e been a good sprinter, has the build.
The thing he hasn't looked as fast as he you use to be, also some players don't look sharp at all unless they are match fit and have the mental timings that go with their pace

Can we afford half a season of dross before he hopefully gets into his stride, though? Or do we run with our shiny new left back and leave Fryers/BAE as backup?
BAE and Fryers don't deserve to be fullbacks here,

fryers needs a championship loan to prove himself

BAE looked poor last season for QPR and issues with his attitude. I think its telling so far that Harry hasn't come back in for him

Benny I feel was very much a part of that relatively successful team under Harry. He was excellent then but I just think his time with us is past now.

That was 3 years ago but last season he was poor

QPR were pathetic, don't deserve to be called a team, I know alot of people here don't watch championship but with the quality they had they should of finished first and they didnt deserve to get promoted and got lucky!

Im guessing @parklane1 and @Kendall also think that BAE should be in the squad, if so why was he so poor for QPR last season. Even redknapp said Benny struggled in the championship:
“For me he was in the best three left-backs in the Premier League when he was at Tottenham. I don’t think he’s quite reached the heights, but let’s hope that in the play-offs he’ll be a big player for us.

“I think he’s found the change between the Premier League and Championship difficult.”

QPR fans were moaning about his mistakes last season in and around march and wanted Yun Suk Young in the starting line up since he was getting caught out of position too much.

He looked like he didnt want to be there and harry has said they wont sign players that don't want to play for the club anymore

Couldn't agree more with this. I've played at a pretty decent level in my time and I believe I was always technically one of the best wherever I went and was also a very good athlete (11.3 seconds 100m) but if I wasn't match sharp I was a shadow of myself. It's all to do with muscle memory. You are trained over and over again to have perfect technique and obviously you spend a lot of your time doing these things when you are fit but then when you get a long term injury you come back to training and you just can't perform everything with the right technique until you are fully fit again

That's because you put more value on his QPR performances than I do, which of course is a personal perspective and why I disagree with you, but wouldn't say you're wrong for doing so. Playing for QPR when you don't want to and playing for Tottenham, a club you love is different altogether.

Honestly, I don't know whether he will be able to recapture his old form BUT I never thought he should be at QPR in the first place and the character BAE is, I'm not sure he gave as much of a shit playing for QPR than Spurs. Now that's not the best attitude to have, but I'd rather he come back and we see what he's like back at the club he seems to love.

Rose looked decent for us before he got injured...and then was fucking awful. He strikes me as a failed winger, as harsh as that sounds. Davies looks like he's got it in his locker to get forward and play a big part in attacks....but often chooses not to because he's a first and foremost a defender.

I think we should keep both and have them compete for a first team spot. In games where we are favored to win, Rose is the more useful option, in games we might struggle, Davies is the more useful option. Rose has shown a lot of improvement in these first two pre-season games which is a good sign, and Davies had a pretty decent debut.

Fredericks and Fryers can go out on loan. Leaves us with 2 left backs and 2 right backs (as well as players capable of filling in there in the worst case), all 4 of them HG too.

I think we will keep both because it seems like classic tottenham transfer policy to me to have two fullbacks with big potential and keep them both around as the chances of us ending up with a top class player double. We buy young players or bring them through to try and end up with top class players because that's the standard you need to break into the top 4, simple as that.

I also expect Fredericks to get a championship loan as he's still very raw and Fryers to get a loan to a premier league club. I think it would benefit them both far more than sticking around here playing the odd cup game. Fredericks actually excites me far more than someone like Tom Carroll because with more experience and coaching he has the raw materials to be very good. Looks like a rough diamond to me

Really enjoyed his game against Toronto. He was one of the few wide players we've had that seems to understand that our top 4 aren't the biggest lads so maybe some through balls/low crosses are what's best to keep the offense clicking.

He looked solid on defense, but in fairness they were rarely tested during that half.

On offense he showed exactly as I expected. He's not someone who takes on his opposing number, but instead he's someone who is very aware positionally to make himself open to receive a pass and also has the IQ to know immediately what he wants to do with the ball when he receives it. I liked just about everything he did in the opposing half and I imagine with some more training with the group they'll get even sharper with the balls he was putting into the box.

...seriously though, if Benny wasn't such a loose cannon, quenelle gestures and head butts aside, he should be at the very peak of his powers right now. He is only 30 right? All things being equal, he should be in the squad challenging for a role. The fact we had to buy Davies means the end of Benny as far as I can see it.

He looks dead tired after the first run forward he makes and he never rushes back after losing the ball in an advanced position. Of course, that may be down to laziness mostly, and not lack of athleticism, but still that's his biggest flaw and it's a pretty huge one for a full back.

He looked dead tired after coming back from injury.

As for being disposed he has only been disposed of the ball one more time than Naughton and less than both Walker and Verts.

He is usually found out of position when we are in possession of the ball and he is creating the space on the left. Our midfield then lose possession and are hit on the break. This is not Danny Rose's fault, even though some label these instances as such. This wasn't as big a deal when AVB had us playing our CM's with more defensive responsibilities, but under sherwood it was felt more. Naughton on the right had the luxury of Lennon tracking back, unfortunately Eriksen was given a floating role coming in from the left which left us even more exposed.

We saw against Toronto that with a balanced team Danny Rose is very much an asset to the club. If he goes, he will be leaving for first team football to continue his development and i wish him well.

Oh look. Another let's bash Rose thread.

Quick everyone. Hide the statistics.

You don't need stats. Rose was utter shit, we bought Davies, Rose has looked increasingly good ever since. Don't cry into all those hankies, you may want one to wank into later on.

Rose looked good playing against West ham and QPR, but was back to his worst against Livepool.
