Blimey, we were 0-0 and playing the best I've seen in some time, but then we are two down. Let's see what happens in the second half, but I thought that if we may go on a small run of wins if we manage to forget tonight's result. It would be nice to score a goal tonight, even if it is to reduce our GD.

Lamela has lost the ball too much?

96% pass accuracy
2nd in touches behind bentelab with only 3 been unsuccesful (twice as many touches as lennon and eriksen)
0 dispossed

I don't know much about the game but if those stats are true then how the FUCK is Erik coming in to so much criticism on here?

Seeing the replay again, that was so poor from Lennon. I know he'll think in his own mind that if he had a proper RB behind him he may not have needed to track Hazard, but he really needed to stay with him upon a pass into the box. That is just simple marking strategy taught to wide men as of the age of 12. He has got to do better there, especially against a player as skillful in tight areas as Hazard.

In many ways that was a very good performance, unfortunately punctuated by some careless individual moments. Mason's passing has been very careless at times, Lamela is showing well but has a couple of times done the usual turning into trouble instead of laying it off simple. Lennon was way to fucking casual for the first goal and Lloris with one of his occasional brain farts cost us a second.

I like the idea of Lamela in for Soldado away at Chelsea, he works that little bit harder off the ball and shows for it. But he really needs to cut out the fucking about at times.

He's not sticking to the left because he's playing in the middle predominantly. , are you even watching the game.

Chill. That is why I said it might not be his fault, it might be instructions. I can't work out who is meant to be playing there.

Next goal is crucial but you have to fear whether Chelsea step up a gear or two because our defence will always gift chances.

Lamela does deserve a level of increasing criticism considering he has still failed to live up to the huge price tag along with lackadaisical tracking back but on tonight's showing you have to look at the likes of Lennon and Eriksen who have gone missing too.

Soldado won't change this outcome IMO and we desperately need to get a foothold in midfield and try to stifle Hazard, Fabregas et al.

I don't think it will be a hammering due to it being three games this week for everyone, so they'll want to preserve energy levels.

I don't even think they'll be looking to get a third really, just manage the game properly, and if it presents itself etc

They've got the early kick off against Newcastle don't forget, so Mourinho will already be thinking about that.

We just need to try and stay solid, keep the ball better and take a chance if it comes our way.

Tbf how many games has Eriksen won us since he arrived? Its only fair he gets some slack.
I think he deserves slack but in the general schemes of things and not in this match. No one should get slack in just a particular game, just like Lloris shouldn't be because he was at fault for both our goals

Oh now that was disappointing. Having started so well, the contrast in the first 15 to the last 30 was crazy. We imploded after the second goal and lost all sense of composure.

As a fair few have pointed out on here, the careless passing is really awful and is making an exceptional team look even better.
Ok, we're going over the top here. Apart from Lloris' kick that led to the second goal, we played very well that half.

Normally we would have shat it after conceding those, but we collected ourselves after a ropey 5/10 mins and continued to play and carry out our plan.

That performance is a continuation from everton to a very large degree, unfortunately we are playing the league champions elect.

Love how bad ol' expensive foreigner Lamela gets panned...

...but wait, boy wonder Ryan 'HE'S ONE OV OUR OWN!' Mason doesn't even get mentioned... He's been carried by Bentaleb. Tactically naive, sloppy passing and lack of pressing.

Can't stand these agenda-driven match threads anymore.

Legit think some here wouldn't even celebrate if Lamela scored.

FWIW, I think Mason is a great find but doesn't suit being in a midfield two.

Don't think either have been great to be honest. Both need to stand up and be counted. Mason needs to work harder, put in some tackles and thread some passes. Lamela needs to make a contribution in the final third.

Decent performance overall silly mistakes costing us again.
We have some real talented young players, we need a few parkers and gallas's to help them through games like these

Love how calm this thread is when we are 2-0 down, glad there isn't much knee jerk and people recognise our standings.

My main concern is Saturday and how Poch picks the players up from this, we have a run of games where we can build up some decent points

You do know that you are in the SC matchday thread right? This is not where reason resides.

We have a chance if we start the second half strong. Mason needs to compose himself and eriksen needs to get in the ball more

Watching the game and really can't understand the flack coming Lamela's way. He has had some nice touches, and has taken the ball in difficult circumstances to relieve teammates. Yes, he has made a couple of mistakes but haven't they all. Lamela is putting himself about, time Eriksen did the same. Bentaleb is playing well, such a prospect. Lets start 2nd half as we did the first but this time take one of those chances.

It's the lack of concentration that does me in, we make so many mistakes at the back and it just destroys any momentum we have going forward particularly when you're playing a strong defensive unit like the Chavs.
Shame as we seemed to have started well but we just can't keep it tight.
