Possible replacements for MS at Saints are Ondrej Duda & Jordy Clasie. Maybe we should go directly after who they view as acceptable replacements.
If we can't get Schneiderlin, I hope one of the alternatives is Khedira. Might be a tad optimistic, but you never know.
No way is this guy worth £25 mill.
I hope we are in this deal just to bump up the price for Arsenal.
25 million is exactly what I expected them to value him at - in today's crazy market.
Its really not that unreasonable. If we have no attention of getting anywhere near that we should just drop our interest now. This is what always gets me with us sometimes - if we know its very unlikely that two valuations will be bridged why waste the time when we could be pursuing other targets/alternatives?
It will be important that we get these players in relatively early, not doing the usual and waiting until the latter stages of the window.
15 million is a joke though. and I'd be rightly laughing if I were at Southampton. He's pretty much the best midfielder in the League - that type of midfielder anyway.
20 million should be the absolute minimum.
Excellent points, some of which I don't agree with. ( ) Levy has shown with the Modric deal that if he has a target he can act quickly. We are in many cases targeting players that are also on the radar of bigger clubs. Which is a good thing. We could easily tie up deals for players that are less talented and get the deals done early but that would likely leave us with a worse squad.
I understand the frustration but if he is Poch's number one target then surely it is better to wait than go for potentially substandard alternative?
With situations like this I don't always think it's us not paying up that delays things. It's more likely that if Schneiderlin(and his agent) know other more prestigious clubs are interested then he will wait until the very last moment for them to bid. Even though he may only be 3rd or 4th choice on their list. So we just have to wait our turn and hope that those other clubs get their number 1 targets leaving us to sign our number 1 target in Schneiderlin.
I actually think that is what holds us up on a lot of our transfers. We are in many cases targeting players that are also on the radar of bigger clubs. Which is a good thing. We could easily tie up deals for players that are less talented and get the deals done early but that would likely leave us with a worse squad.
Glass half empty this morning?Same shit different day here, we will offer £10m less than the valuation, fuck about for ages then finally concede defeat when the window shuts and scrabble round for an inferior player, déjà fucking vu!!!
But why wait? If we value him well south of what they want waiting isn't going to make a blind bit of difference - all we do is hinder our own situation.
If its possible that waiting will see us agree after lengthy negotiations then sure, its preferable. But not if its unlikely we won't. Its a judgement call that only Levy will be able to make.
