When this thread goes into meltdown it reminds me of that scene in Airplane when the stewardess is explaining to the passengers that the bumpy ride is due to turbulence........oh and by the way, do any of you know how to fly a plane?

*cue mass panic and all hell breaking loose*

I agree in some respects but it helps if those early signings address the weaknesses in your line up and enable you to start the season with a finished squad. I doubt Liverpool care much what players they are linked too now.

True, but the manager himself said today that he was concerned with the number of goals we conceded. Hence three defenders. Yes a DM to follow and now a striker. But I do feel as if the defence was his main concern. Look, let's see what happens in the next week before hanging the bald one.

Yeah if we won't sign certain players it has to be about Levy and the finances. Can't possibly be any another explanation.

Joking aside I wouldn't worry about protecting Mr Levy too much, buck stops with the boss in pretty much every company in the world.

Also Levy has a history of being heavily involved in our transfer dealings, even chairmen like Peace mentioning him by name as long ago as this week, so it's no great surprise that the fans make that link. No agenda here just judging on what we see.

Thanks for the info, nothing earth shattering. I have to say that I'm a little disappointed that it looks to be going to the wire again. If we lose out on targets due to a 3-4 million difference then I think serious questions need to be asked, especially when you see clubs like wba, Newcastle and villa all spending. There was a table on talksport the other day that shows biggest spenders, and surprise we were at the bottom with a net of £17.5m.

We managed to upgrade our defense before the the transfer window opened; so I don't understand why it's down to the wire with a striker
You really need to get a grip with reality. Don't you think we would sign these players now if we could? Do really believe Levy and co purposely leave it until last minute? Its out of their hands. Offering 100 million for a player who does not want to come or are waiting for a better offer wont make them come any quicker. The sooner you (and others} accept that Spurs is not the be all and end all to others, the sooner you will accept our position in the footballing food chain.

Don't really get why people took a negative slant on the GF info. Obviously their own anxiousness taking over.

On SB he's simply stating we aren't put off by their statement and are bidding again.

Germans being unlikely isn't exactly a surprise, nor is Adebayor being a pain in the arse.

Does sound like we are gonna be levyed on Lennon though.

Never mind Levy Time, we are lucky on here and get JJ Time to soothe those with frazzled nerves fairly regularly after about 11pm!

I'm very grateful to @JJetset , @Grey Fox and @Trix for giving us titbits of info to keep us in the loop as far as they are able. Makes the transfer window MUCH better than relying on garbage in the press. For some reason people seem to expect the ITKs to wave magic wands and get deals done for us - for whatever players posters have in their fantasy teams! But that's not what they do. What they do is give us a bit of insight into what our options are and how they are developing in the tricky situation of bargaining and deals that depend on each other right across teh prem and beyond.

Thanks guys! (y)

I'm really interested to know who our back up options are for Saido Berahino.

It feels like the DM options are pretty obvious with Bender, Kramer and Illeramendi (sp), even though it's not immediately clear who the primary target of those is.

But with the strikers I can't really think of anyone concrete (other than Berahino) since Martial signed his new contract.

Poch said today in the press conference that we always have alternative options, which is what the ITKs tell us. It's just strange that we've not had anything else but Berahino for a good while now... (n)

For whatever reason I don't know, but my trail of thought in the "Plan B" (for want of a better phrase) striker has led me to a question I've never actually thought about before. Not sure if this is the kind of thing @Trix or @JJetset would know the answer to...

Is there an actual transfer list? From what I know, there isn't one that the public know about, only one that games and the media often elude to.

If there is one, just like in a game, it could be a case that some teams won't actually decide who they want to keep and don't want to keep until the last week of a window. As such, it's entirely possible that we know roughly what our targets are, but a player might suddenly become available that changes things completely.
For example, if SB handed in a transfer request, would that perhaps bring other teams into the mix who haven't bothered until now because they see any current efforts as fruitless? Is it all 'on the grapevine' (through agents and so on) or is there actually a database/list of some kind that clubs will place players on - to let clubs know they are available?

Why are people losing their shit?

Levy came out and said after an early flurry of signings business would be done late. I'm delighted with what I've seen of the new boys so far and think they will be good signings, we've shifted a load of deadwood and trimmed the fat.

I'd rather we set our targets high with players than sign any old garbage and be back here in another year clearing another bloated squad.
It's clear some of the irk linked players have options and want to see what options they have. Would you marry the first girl who hops in bed with you? These are classy players who need convincing and have lots of suitors, I am confident the powers that be are working on selling the club to these top players and have a plan b if we can't convince them. We won't end the window with just HK up top as an option. Be patient.

Which lets be honest is fuck all. Look I am not here to defend Levy(he's made plenty of mistakes) but the stock answer to every player who doesn't sign seems to be "Levy wouldn't pay it." Which in a lot of cases just isn't the reason at all.

I have been saying for months Lennon would be very difficult to shift. At his age, with his issues and wage demands, he is a risk for any club to take on.

Easiest way would be to shut the thread.

If I'm Everton I'm holding on until deadline day and trying to get him for something like £2m to make up for the
big wages.

By freezing him out we have no hand to play.
