The window closed at 6pm, but VDV wasn't confirmed until noon the next day - the coverage stretched until late in the night partially due to the enormity of the VDV transfer itself, and whether we'd done it in time.

1755: You've got to love Tottenham on days like this, you just have to. They have five minutes to wrap it up, but get a load of this. Sky Sports News are claiming a deal could - COULD - be done for the Londoners to sign Netherlands international Rafael van der Vaartfrom Real Madrid. Unbelievable.

.....

2045: Right, folks, I am going to love you and leave you. Whether or not Rafael van der Vaart's move to Tottenham has gone through in time, I'm afraid, remains a mystery, and with no-one at the club available for comment for the past few hours we've decided to call this commentary done.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8954459.stm

I think this is pretty much the birth of modern day "Levy Time". Whether we'll see a deal that late and that big happen again remains to be seen.

I remember reading this at the time just as I got home from work, was mental, jumped straight on here and caught up with the insanity...

Easily the best transfer window event ever.

Grey Fox:

Sorry later than expected. We have not given up on Berahino and go in with another offer, the Fazio situation is seperate and it's basically down to him, a couple of Spanish clubs have also shown interest.

There are apparently 2 back ups to Berahino one of which has not been mentioned on here. As far as the dm/cm is concerned I've been told the Germans are now very unlikely but we have had extensive talks with Illarremendi and one other, any deals are expected to be late although the club would like them finalised before the Everton game.

As far as outgoings are concerned Adebayor, is proving really difficult basically no EPL club want him so abroad is fast becoming his/our only option. Lennon interest has also dropped and we will have to drop price if were are to get rid of. Fazio will be easier and should get done by early next week.

I suspect that I'm in the big minority here but the news that we likely won't get Kramer or Bender leads me to believe that we might get Rabiot and/or Illaramendi. And I would far prefer either of these to the two Germans.

Nothing really surprising in Grey Fox's update.. The Germans were always going to be hard deals to do with the euro's on next summer.. perceivably they all have a chance at making squad & with moving to a new country there's always a level of risk that your form can dip or not settle.. As for Sven the PL is so physically demanding it's probably not the best to move to when your trying to overcome long-term injuries, if he can get a year injury free & regain his fitness then next season would be a better time to move to PL.

Ade.. as expected, always thought he should move to America, with his life story he could make a fair few dollars on the chat show circuit.. Levy phone Oprah.. Lennon I think will go on deadline day on loan if all else fails, there will be a lot of clubs looking to do all they can to stay in PL with the new TV deal kicking in next year.. someone will panic & fork out 6 or 7ml for him.

The two back-ups haven't been mentioned on here.. this may be me been thick but as they say it's better than burning your woman's saucepan.. when Grey say's not mentioned on here does he mean by ITK or on the whole Transfer rumours part of the site i.e. there isn't a thread for these players

How much has he wasted?

Ask the net spend jockeys, they don't like it that we don't lose money every window.

Really? Don't know the exact amount and don't really care but know that we've sold lots of players recently for less than we've paid for them. Anyway my point is not that we don't spend loads of money it's that we should not be in this position yet again playing Russian roulette with our season. Poch clearly said in May that we need to do our business early on on more than one occasion, he is just toeing the company line with his comments currently.

Can we all make a deal? I will create a special thread at the end of the window where you can all chastise my optimism and insult me to your heart's delight without recourse.

But only if we do not sign two more players before the deadline slams shut and on the basis that you give Levy and Mitchell and Baldini until the deadline has closed before producing the sort of comments that Grey Fox's info has spawned.

Deal?

Agree for Yes, Funny for No.

FOR CLARIFICATION: not another Nelson/Saha. Although that Newcastle game he was quality.

Keen for some positive ratings, eh? Whore. ;)

BTW - I agreed, you got me. (Fucking lawyers - coming from an insurance broker)

"The stadium has no impact on our transfer policy" - Daniel Levy

Reckon he's ITK? What's his record like? ;)

Oh dear oh dear wish I hadn't posted. Apart from getting rid of Adebayor and Lennon becoming more difficult not a lot has changed. Poch and Co have decided who they want and doing their best to get them. Whoever that might be I have been led to believe they will be quality.

I know it's school holidays but it must be time for bed for some of you

Thanks for posting, mate. The closer we get to the deadline, the worse the naysayers get. Please don't let it discourage you from posting. There are only a few ITKs left it seems and we've got two or three on this site! :) (y)

The problem with doing business early is that members on SC forget that it happens at all. You may have missed the players being unveiled in our first game.

As is said earlier, enough for now. Slag off until you are content but only after the deadline.

That's my only rule.

For what it's worth, I'm still optimistic that we'll improve the team before the window shuts. Could end up with a combination of top target and backup option, or ideally two first-team players.

Whatever happens at least we appear to be busy and the next few days promise to be a hell of a lot more interesting than this time last summer.

WBA have bought enough strikers to satisfy the wrist-slitters on this forum several times over. They are clearly readying themselves to lose Berahino - statements made acknowledge that we have made bids.

Someone posted a couple of days ago that the final deal will be "undisclosed amount". That way, we get the player and they imply that we offered a higher amount.

This is opinion.

As to the rest of GF's info, it doesn't say the deals are dead, and it implies that Illaramendi is on the cards. Again, a player who has been touted about and no-one has bitten yet - sounds like we have a free run at him.

As to Ade, sod him.

The thing with Berahino is, that I do believe that - neverminding the public statement of WBA - we must have been giving encouragement behind the scenes to keep pursuing him and put in a higher bid. Agents usually excel in this I presume. That tangles in with the earlier info that several formalities are already done.

I remain hopeful we will get him in.

So true. Alli, Wimmer, Trippier, etc. all in early. The more players we sign, the longer it takes for them to gel. I look forward to summer transfer windows where we only sign 1-2 players to complement/improve what we currently have (basically means that we need a manager to stick around for a while).

Here's some ITK for you - we still have just under two weeks of the window left. Most business conducted in the last 2 week. Put down the gun. Step away from the ledge. Throw those pills down the drain. Go rub one out and come back when you've gained some perspective and / or realised and accepted we don't have CL we don't have a bottomless pit of oil money and we are doing INCREDIBLY well to have maintained our place over the last 7/8 years, we have a plan for our future unlike any other club outside the top 4 or 5 and we are actually the only club outside the top 4/5 that's going to attract these sorts of players.

Jesus.

I agree in some respects but it helps if those early signings address the weaknesses in your line up and enable you to start the season with a finished squad. I doubt Liverpool care much what players they are linked too now.

Wonder if the player not mentioned is Rodriguez. Obviously been mentioned before, but not recently. And I see he scored a pen tonight, so must be building up that fitness.

If WBA want £25m for Berahino they only have until end of window to get that. If no one offers that then come January they'd be getting less and next summer probably half that at most.
If we won't pay £25m I'm really struggling to see who else would. CFC seem done now, City too after de Bryne, Man Utd will likely aim much bigger to appease fans due to missing out on Pedro.
I'm not the most optimistic re transfers but I'd be surprised if Berahino doesn't sign for us for about 20m ish.

It's the CM position transfer wise that is very worrying and right now I'm not expecting much.

That's why it's called a forum pal.
So why exactly is it called the ITK discussion thread, pal?

This sort of sh*t belongs in other threads, ones that I don't read on account of the fact that reading this argument every day would drive me batsh*t mental.

Which it is, by the way.
