Feel very proud of our club tonight. A tough week of fixtures and our boys fought every minute together. We actually have a team for a change and not simply a splattering of decent players. Long may it continue.

Just watched the game over again and for all we were the better team overall and deserved to win?? The start of that second half and those two headers - Giroud and Koscielny - nobody anywhere near them, its awful. It is our achilles heel (still) as it was for a lot of last season. Toby and Jan need to be much more commanding from set piece situations, against.

I don't disagree and I hope they can improve a bit but it may just not be possible for them to out-jump taller players who are exceptionally good in the air.

Cutting out crosses would help but in fairness you can't stop every attack from every angle all the time, and the defence actually did a very convincing job overall.

I'd rather keep Jan and Toby with their potential aerial weakness (it's not as bad as all that, either) than lose the many other qualities they contribute to the team that we've been lacking for a very long time.

Difficult to tell really to be fair, as those two headers were totally unchallenged. You don't have to out jump your opponent, but you do have to make a challenge, anything to stop a free header in and around the 6 yard box. Its also down to timing the challenge or atleast do something that will put the attacker off and make it difficult to get a clear header in.

Can't rely on verts in the air tbh, would prefer Dier to have marking duty on main threat on oppo. set pieces.

It wasn't down to out jumping them or not, nobody was anywhere near them, on 3 occasions plus.
It was and still is an issue we just don't seem to address although we have improved defensively in other areas.
For me it looks like we simply do not decide who's marking who before or even during a game.
If you're playing Arseholes you know Giroud and Scrotumsacker are the biggest aerial threat. So why wasn't Verts marking one and Alder marking the other?
To me it actually looked a few times like Lamela had been given the task of marking Giroud and thats nuts.
Any high balls in worry me but I suppose its a testament to how well we played that we reduced them to long ball in their own back yard.
It is an issue but boys played really well today bar that.
We're definitely stronger than the sum of our parts. Great team work.

It looked more simple to me. It seemed we were marking zonally. As soon as Giroud got that first header which hit the bar, Poch should have got Dier to man mark him at any set piece. Unfortunately that did not seem to happen and each time he had a free header. Lucky for us he didn't take advantage.

An extraordinary statement in yesterday's Guardian's preview of today's match, which I have to assume they have bothered to check:

...nine of the last 16 England debutants have worked under Pochettino either at Tottenham or on the south coast.

Assigning players to mark should surely be all sorted well beforehand, that said if those players don't come forward from the back for a particular set play, then players need to sort that out during the game itself. I still think we are lacking a real leader out on the pitch and players have to take on responsibility during the game and take charge of situations that develop, our CBs have to boss their opponent and not the other way around, we are taken massive strides this season - so its wrong to be over critical - but its a worrying weak spot none the less.

Oh God please don't tell me we were using zonal marking.
Explains everything.
Its shit and doesn't work imo.
Has a zone ever scored a goal?
Not to my knowledge lol.

IMO, Dele Alli had the best game in Spurs shirt till now. Alli & Dier outran & outplayed Cazorla & Coquelin , so much so that , Cazorla was taken off at HT feeling "dizzy".
Not an easy feat at library for a 19 year old playing in first NLD.

Did anyone watch the MOTD2 highlights edit?

It was basically all Arsenal highlights. It included our goal plus about 2 spurs chances. What a joke.

Then Jenas proceeded to say it was the most complete performance he'd seen from a spurs side -
Well you wouldn't have had a clue from watching the shit the BBC put out!

Well in the limited highlights package they have they can only show the key moments in a game rather than our passing or pressing
