Unfortunately we're in a position where our finances mean we need to negotiate, whereas chelsea can just match our offer and then piss on our wages from a great height.......how much is champions league worth to a player (especially when its probably only missing out for one season)? Frustrating and annoying, but then that's what being a **** is all about...and chelsea are very vood at that!
I just hope that Levy saw it coming and just stayed active to build the cost up with no intention of matching them.

Why do players desire CL. That is the big stage to parade their wares and attract bigger pay cheques. In the present case, Batshit is given that without having to prove himself., so he naturally takes it.

Its more than that. Good players want to play against the best in an elite competition

All these words about Batshuayi coming to Spurs and then not coming. What bollocks!

We all know what Levy's tendency has been over the years regarding player acquisitions. Levy likes a bargain! This talk of negotiations going on for six months is surely a smokescreen for the real targets. Remember that Spurs have to pay for a fabulous training ground and the new stadium that will be built shortly. Forget the biggest cash windfall in Premier League history that has seen Crystal Palace have a bid for Batshuayi accepted by Marseille. The real targets must surely be players of the calibre of Peter Crouch and Steven Fletcher. Both have Premier League experience and both have experience of playing in Europe. And either could be back up to Harry Kane. Most important - they'd be cheap! In fact no transfer fee to be paid!!!

Lessons have been learned and there's been no ITK on the real targets. I wait with bated breath for the word that one of these guys (or players of similar quality) are the latest signings to keep us in the top four and launch the 2016-2017 Champions League campaign.

Sort of, but not really. Money is the driving factor - but playing against the best is a part of the equation. I think though, that it plays a bigger role in Euro or WC years as players try to impress national team set-ups to make those squads. This upcoming season is one of those years where players are not really trying to make a big national squad tournament next summer. So, its less important from that standpoint.

Dave, Levy has said quite clearly on several occasions that the stadium will not effect transfers.

Are you calling him a liar? Be careful now, the BSoDL are everywhere........... Just blink three times if they are holding you at gunpoint or have you bent over and are holding a dildo against your bumhole ready to sausage you to death............
Are you saying its a coincidence we the last 7 years of our spending though? Poch himself said its going to be difficult with transfers while we build the stadium.

I guess what i dont understand about all the stadium talk is, wasnt it delayed for years? Due to little businneses not wanting to budge. Didnt we manage to save in the meantime.

I feel like the champions league money this year wasnt expected and an added bonus, i also feel like because of the delay the tv money should be somewhat of a bonus. I literally have no clue but surely some of that money should be spent of trying to help the team maintain cleague so we keep the finances and exposure as high as possible.

Falcao has a Degree in Journalism. That doesn't mean he interviews himself.

I don't think Pochettino talks about money with Levy. He may have discussed something concrete with Levy under a certain situation where we had to chose, but not like you said that he made a list that had top prices for each player.

You actually believe that if Levy would've paid 33m for Bats (let's imagine for a second he would), Pochettino would say, "No, he's more expensive that what I think he's worth, don't buy him"

What I said is that Poch (by virtue of his MBA) is far more likely to be more sophisticated than simply listing his top players.

And yes he does talk money with DL.

That's proved by the fact he negotiated his own contract.

So, has Chelsea signed him yet?

He has had a medical. Presumably the delay is because the Belgian FA went mental at the deal being concluded two days before they are due to play a quarter-final.

By the way, the local Marseille rag La Provence backs up my info that the deal with us was done some time ago.

If you are referring to the article I have in mind, they even claim that the initial deal included the left back Benjamin Mendy :wideyed:
" Benjamin Mendy était alors inclus dans la transaction."

@millsey I think A&C may have whooshed you there. Unless you're whooshing me with your post? Whoosh-ception.

That's the one. No idea whether Mendy had anything to do with it.

Two other pieces of info I have. Nothing earth shattering, mind:
1. Batshuayi's nose was seriously out of joint when Steven Fletcher arrived - he wouldn't acknowledge his existence for the first couple of days.
2. He had to be talked through which position he should be taking up during games.

Robin Bainer from goal.com wrote an article about Michy and described him as "A striker best suited to nipping in behind defences or finding a pocket of space in the box, he mustered a commendable 17 goals" and in comparison to Drogba, "He is not nearly as capable in the air, while his hold-up play and industry are not in the same bracket. It is for these reasons that Batshuayi had to play second fiddle to Andre-Pierre Gignac during his first year in France"

Does that sound like someone who we couldn't live without? He could turn into the next Drogba but I think we've dodged a bullet considering its 40m Euros and 100k a week while we still need to extend contracts or reward some of our impact players such as Eriksen, Lamela, Hugo, Dier, Alli etc..

I think I'd rather have Sanabria. I'm not sure why though. Perhaps it's FM related, but he looks like he has a lot of potential. A gut feeling.

I am leaning that way - not for FM reasons - but more from a practical standpoint, I don't think pace is what we need to break down teams that bunker* - we need quickness and strong technical ability to move the ball in tight spaces - and I think Sanabria has that skill set.

* this was one of the mistakes Roy made against Iceland - Sterling and Sturridge were useless against Iceland because they have pace, but not the technical skills to work in crowded areas.
