"I hear Spurs are looking at this kid from Monaco named Martial."

I feel like we've seen this bats story before...

Completely different.
We offered £30 or so million, they rejected it. The key here is that he then signed a new contract.
United then stepped in, offered a lot more to buy out that contract and he signed for them.
Monaco were to blame for that deal, not Levy/Spurs.

A bit of a bummer that Levy would drag things out for months and take a gamble on a player Poch has spent months personally following with Bielsa sending him footage to review in an attempt to help his protege get a step up on everyone else in a player he found particularly special.

It seems that history is repeating itself again. Last time this happened we lost out on William and signed Eriksen for half the price. It sounds like we miss out on Bats and get someone from Eredivisie in Janssen for half the price too. Considering how it worked out last time I wont be complaining.

For those suggesting we're not backing the manager, well not backing him would mean not trying to sign Bats in the first place. We can't sign everyone the manager wants and it's the same for every other manager. Will Mourinho and Guardiola try and sign the same player at some point? Most probably but one will miss out. It doesn't suggest the manager is not being backed. The transfer window is competitive and it's important for the manager to have more than one choice. As long as we get one of Pochettino's options up front he will be happy.
Wasn't it Lamela who we signed instead of Willian

Don't see much difference in Chelsea signing Batshuayi than when they signed Lukaku. They didn't have the patience for him and he wasted a few years at a mid table team. I'm sure the pair of them have spoken but if Batshuayi has chosen money above all then I don't think he'd be the player for us. Signing a player like Janssen or Sanabria will keep the squad harmony on an even keel.

Somebody needs to edit that Joe video of Ed Woodward and Van Gaal in the club in Barcelona casting eyes at Pedro and then Mourinho swoops in to Levy and Poch with Abramovich instead of Jose.

Business is business. Poch is very rational

The info is not surprising. On the contrary, i would have been shocked had we bid 40m euros on a potential backup striker.

Poch has a MBA Sports Business.

In nominating his list of preferred strikers (and knowing what other positions he wants to fill from a finite budget), it would be perfectly logical for him to say Bats is my first choice (if he was) - but I wouldn't want to pay more than £x in wages/fees and if he wants more I'd go with another choice.

I'm not sure why people assume its a fixed list of strikers I , 2, 3 order irrespective of finances

But that doesn't fit the narrative that Levy is an idiot who is secretly an Arsenal fan who is quietly trying to screw us over by refusing to spend the billions we have under the sofa in WHL. So we must continue to believe that Poch has no concept of cost and only understands quality.

And we probably have a budget to work to given the stadium situation.
Dave, Levy has said quite clearly on several occasions that the stadium will not effect transfers.

Are you calling him a liar? Be careful now, the BSoDL are everywhere........... Just blink three times if they are holding you at gunpoint or have you bent over and are holding a dildo against your bumhole ready to sausage you to death............

I've never seen this narrative and its ridiculous to believe even for me, why are you casting ODL in such a negative light?See post 1016 for details on how to answer.......

I seriously doubt Pochettino would talk about money.

Janssen maybe, but he's nowhere near as Bats.
Sanabria is just a different kind of player. He's not a number 9 and even further in the development. The most raw of the 3.

Besides, how can you judge Bats for wanting the money when he rejected Wham and CP? We never got a bid accepted. He didn't choose the money. He chose the bigger club between those who got a bid accepted. What did you expect him to do? Wait til the end of the window for us hoping for Levy to loosen the purse? And that without taking into consideration that unfortunately Chelsea have a higher status than us in world football. So its not about the money really
