I think there really should be some form of eating as many hot dogs contest, i am surprised sports like squash isnt in the olympics. Polo would be fun. Im surprised the t20 cricket isn't in if the football is in. In all honesty i didnt watch any football.

Ive always preferred the winter olympics, love ice hockey amongst others.

Squash is the one that I really don't understand why it's not in there.

Have to say that after watching the Tokyo handover with Super Mario and Doraemon, I'm really looking forward to the Japanese Olympics.

Golf is an interesting one because I was dead against it being an Olympic sport before this games, but I think it was one of the more competitive and interesting finishes, and the big players who did go out there really put a lot of effort into it. I think it's got the potential to be an event that does rival the majors which is what should be the case for an Olympic Sport.

The same is true of tennis, where it's clear the players do think of it as a major event that is on a par with the majors so I can see why it's in there.

Football is the one where it's clear it doesn't mean as much to the players as other tournaments. I think that would be the first to go for me.

Baseball and basketball are tricky ones because there's only one team who will win it, but technically it is the pinnacle of the sport on an international basis.

And leave the dancing horses alone...GB are fucking awesome at that!

Totally agree. I thought the same about the Golf and Tennis, but seeing how much it clearly means to them I've been won around. I'm sure if you asked Justin Rose whether he'd prefer to win the Open/The Masters or the Olympics he'd choose the former every time, but that doesn't mean an Olympic Gold medal isn't very special indeed and it only comes around every 4 years.

It would be interesting to know privately what the competitors of the other minor sports and Track and Field think (which as you say has the Olympics as the pinnacle of their sport)? Wonder whether they are happy to share the limelight or think the golfers, Tennis players and footballers etc should bugger off?

So what's the general opinion on the clamour for "gongs" for our Olympians?
Personally I'm against it.
The reward these sportsmen/women get is from winning Gold medals - that's the height of their career achievements.
Making them a Sir/Dame just because they won 4-6 medals doesn't seem right to me.

It's much more than just winning a gold medal though, it's about the service and dedication to sport, thrown in that these athetes inspire the masses.

Much bigger than just winning a medal.

I'd much rather these guys given all the glory and screen time, amde dames and sir's than the likes of the tower or geordie shore lot inspiring a nation.

Not to put a dampener on things but when I see stuff like that I'm always like if only I'm alive and don't fucking die between now and then.

I'm gonna watch my every step now to make sure I don't fucking get run over.

I'd rather they got rid of them altogether, or assigned them to those who do something that is generally unrecognised.

Meh... they give politicians and businessmen CBE's and Knighthoods for being crooks and villains. Honours system has been cheapened for yonks, may as well give it to someone who's very good at their sport.

I agree. There definitely needs to be a higher level of recognition for these super stars...they do inspire people to go out and start running/cycling, and the younger generations to do the same or join a gymnastics/swimming clubs etc...

I think making sports stars Sirs and Dames is a bit over the top but a precedent has been set with Redgrave and Hoy and even Hurst so these guys will ultimately follow suit with their achievements.

I was going to say aren't MBE's and OBE's enough, but then it occured to me the likes of Farah, Kenny and Trott may already have these titles...

If someone from Towie or Geordie shore ever got any kind of 'Empire' recognition, let alone a knighthood, I think I may shoot myself.

I ended our last conversation because you had nothing of substance to add other than laughably suggesting I need to be a qualified drugs tester to prove Djokovic is a cheat.

Then again this is all you have when that one quote from Dick Pound proves my point. I won't repeat it because I can tell from your reply you read it. :)

Random Wikipedia facts of shitty tournaments did nothing to divert from the fact that in an Olympic year Djokovic is shit when it matters. You don't think he wants a gold medal? He sure does but the risk of getting caught is too high so he tries without the drugs and then exits in the first round in tears.

You are so naive.

You have had a lot to say during the Olympics. Most of it is you spouting your views almost trying to contradict everyone else as some sort of substitute for some clear real life failings.

In regards to Semenya there is clearly an issue for the women's sport and until this is addressed it will not encourage potential women to compete.

If you cannot see this or the other two brutes who won silver and bronze in the same race then you need to get off the computer and book an eye test.

You shall now be ignored to save you from further mockery

#shouldhavegonetospecsavers #caseclosed

That's not what I said, but fits with your constant revisionism. But I'd love to see you take your crackpot little theory to WADA. You'd get laughed out of the door. Or take the David Walsh approach and get the Times to publish your thesis on 'Why Novak Djokovic is a Drug Cheat Because He Lost One Match'. Both would be hilarious. I'll get those tanks ready...

As for Semenya, like I said it is not a case of clear absolutes. But her presence has clearly not deterred other athletes from competing. Semenya is not unbeatable. The time she ran in the final was only the 20th fastest of all time. She didn't even make the final of last year's World Championships. I get that you wish every women's event was contested solely by pretty little blonde girls, but unfortunately for you that is not the case.

Your delusion has been a great source of entertainment during these Olympics, especially the way you think I wouldn't reply because of a hashtag.

Yeah, you're right... that's no coincidence. The Olympics, unlike every other tennis tournament, only take place every four fucking years, that means that it's considerably way harder for Djokovic (and every other tennis) to win an Olympic gold medal than to win any other tennis tournament.

And BTW, he actually won the Rogers cup (a master 1000) like a week before Rio. How does that fits in your theory that he had stopped getting juiced or whatever for the Olympic games and that reflected in him performing poorly there? Surely, if he was being extra careful as you suggest, then he wouldn't have risked it for the Rogers cup either considering that it took place so close to Rio.

The Rogers Cup! You are getting desperate now :ROFLMAO:

When you look at the competition a drug free Djokovic should, and did, win that so it fits in perfectly just before Rio.

My point still stands and is valid.

Now you're just trolling. Federer is arguably the best tennis player to ever live, but he hasn't managed to win the Mens' Singles event at the Olympics. Is he doping as well?

Are you young? Suggesting I am trolling because you do not understand makes me think you are young.

Anyway....

It's irrelevant because I am talking about Djokovic and you are going off on one, and now naming other players, because you have nothing valid to add.

Maybe you should stick to talking about football using FIFA 16 statistics :ROFLMAO:
