That's fucking disappointing news if it's final.

Pretty fucking galling considering all the noise too.

Maybe we have moved on and been encouraged by other targets ie Mawson or lascelles

If, as suggested in the media and by Herc, Mawson and Lascelles are on the market at £40m+ I highly doubt we'd move to either, at least until De Ligt's future is resovled.

We have a good history of negotiations with Ajax so it could all be posturing and we're going to take a back seat for now.

I'm fine with not signing him if we give time to our own 18/19 year old CBs like tanganga and eyoma. However, if he's been our no. 1 target then it is incredibly disappointing news. If we sign mawson or Lascelles instead then I'll be a bit frustrated. I don't think either are at the level that we want and they are too expensive with regards to their ability. Only time will tell of course. Who actually knows what's going on inside the club.

Pretty quickly after Hercules posted that ITK 20 or so minutes ago, it was deleted and the whole thread was locked which I thought was odd. That along with tweet from someone in Gold that seems well connected really confuses me. Like something bigger is happening here.

I don't think we would posture if there are other teams waiting to pounce and he is not married to us as an option (even if he may favor us).

I suspect he chose elsewhere, Raiola did his thing and lined up a good delivery fee for himself somewhere, or a bigger fish has come in and we cannot compete.

Think Hercules post got deleted as it was an opinion post not itk so a&c didn’t want it discussed in there

No it was locked for cleaning up because the rule in there is No Twitter. Confusing for some it seems but it’s as simple as that. Nothing more sinister.

I am pretty sure that it was deleted & the thread locked because Twitter was being spoken about, even though nobody actually posted a tweet, just referred to the info from Alasdair Gold, in response to someone talking about De Ligt being our main target.

It was more a prompt to direct the poster to this thread but doesn't appear to have gone down well.

This isn't a typical "let's just go for the option that saves us money" post, but I'm sure had Foyth played for Ajax last season instead of coming to us, he'd be rated just as highly...
Oh yeah, I have no idea how good De Ligt is, but by all accounts we've been keen on him for some time, so something has obviously happened to cause us to withdraw our interest, or at the very least, publically appear to withdraw our interest.

The only way Toby going to Utd was even slightly possible to swallow was by getting a huge fee and getting de Ligt in who could be CB here for ten+ years. If de Ligt chance is dead there is no way we can justify selling Toby to a rival.

Other CB signing options are so limited/so pretty meh that surely there must be a temptation to bite bullet and make peace with Toby.

Bit of a let down.

As long as Poch is on board with the plans, I will keep the faith, but I really thought de Ligt was one to build around.

If Yanited won't sell Martial to us and City are in for de ligt, I think Toby's got a chance. It depends on how much he's renounced his sins I suppose. It's all a bit too coincidental if Toby has been backtracking as much as we think he has.

I think we ought to go the extra €5 million. Push shiteh. If this is one that Poch wants, then Danny must show his commitment.

As much as I really wanted de Ligt - the truth is we are better in the next 2-3 years if we sign Toby to an extension (and he stays healthy). And, if I am a player like Kane or Eriksen - I am looking at the next 2-3 years as the window of opportunity to win things with Spurs. I am sure they are not interested in a player who may not peak for another 5+ years.

The absolute worst case scenario is selling Toby, missing out on de Ligt, and then signing some journeyman CB to fill the spot. That inspires nobody.

We don't know that's the reason for the breakdown though. I doubt we would lose him over €5m. Maybe Toby isn't leaving or maybe De Ligt would just prefer to go somewhere else.
