I think this thread should be locked until after Toby sold. No way we're bidding or signing De Ligt until after this happens.

This was all part of Poch's "be brave" comment, as Herc's explained. No one in, one out. Sign players you want and worry about selling after.

I'd be surprised if Toby was sold whilst he's on World Cup duty.
De Ligt on the other hand I'd hope we'd wrap up soon.

If we confirmed the signing of De Ligt, we'd lose a massive amount of bargaining power with Utd over Toby. No way we close that deal until there has been a resolution in Toby/Martial gate.

There is room for a Toby deal to be done, Belgium play Costa Rica in Heysel on Monday 11th, so there could be an opportunity for him to fly to Manchester if talks progressed. Belgium WC campaign starts on the 18th. Doesn't mesh well with the Martial article on us meeting next week however, unless Belgium are giving the players a couple of days off after the friendly before flying out.

Well then...

Normally if Ally is sharing it he has been brief so by the club. Not sure what connections beyond that he has. Real shame as I massively rate him and still bet Toby is leaving. Lascelles, if he is our backup, is just not suited to our style of play no matter how much Pl experience counts for.

Instant thought = Alderweireld & THFC have sorted shit out & he'll stay.

Possibly putting 2 + 2 together and making 5 here, but maybe the D-Day cryptic was showdown talks between Toby's team and Poch/Levy? Seems highly unlikely from the ITK we've received but stranger things have happened.

Well then...

So either he's no longer keen on us for some reason, or we're no longer keen on him. Or both.

The most obvious reasons why we wouldn't be keen on him are that either Toby is staying (contradicts recent ITK) or that the price is now too high (maybe rumours of City's huge bid are accurate). The only reason I can think that he wouldn't want us, is that another big club are prepared to offer him significantly higher wages.
