I agree with a lot of that, steve, but I feel he gets the ball stuck under his feet too much at the moment. He often takes people on and gets his pocket picked either from knocking the ball straight at them or overrunning it-that sort of thing. Maybe you're right and he's just missing a bit of composure but I have my doubts. He swung in a tasty looking cross today, really wrapped his foot around it and I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of that.

We have a number of players who at the vital moment lack that composure, especially right now with lower than normal confidence. Lennon's run first half, why did he hit his shot so hard? He couldn't bent that with his left foot into the corner...players with so much pace often fall over their own feet or become off balance at the crucial time. I'm convinced it's a mental failing, to lose composure at the crucial moment because that's when the pressure really bites....

Modric is usually composed until he gets between the posts the same can be levelled at Bale, Lennon and others on and off...VDV is probably our coolest finisher but even he snatches sometimes at stuff he'd score with his eyes closed in training....it's pressure pure and simple that makes people lose their composure and thus their technique....they should all practice mindfulness meditation which would help them out enormously....I can see Redknapp & Bond now with the lads in training all sitting in the lotus position....triffic...

What I was thnking before I got to this sentence was that they should get Hell-Boy to teach them some of his meditation techniques.
One thing you can say about the Bradster, he has his foibles as a goalkeeper, but you very rarely see him get flustered - especially when the ball is played into his feet. It is such a marked contrast to the octopus, and something that I believe has calmed our defence down no end compared to last season.

Lol yes Lennon is hugely frustrating because as he's shown at times he can be devastating - so why the inconsistency is the obvious question...injuries haven't helped him but when his confidence is up he can be marvellous. Last season at city i thought he was magnificent, wonderful movement, technique, intelligence and a good final ball. Look at Torres and his drop off in the last year or so...all in the mind pure and simple, it certainly isn't physical...

Because he's such a direct player, he cannot afford to be indecisive, in my opinion. And he is indecisive far too often for my liking. And I expect confidence would be a factor in that. I also can't help but feel that he has to be direct because he hasn't got much between his ears. I am not happy with his off the ball movement and I don't like his flicks. I want to see us signing more cerebral players, to be perfectly honest.

Even when he isn't on it, he's still dangerous. His speed and the fact that he can score a goal now and then mean he can't simply be ignored. Every little halps and just by being on the pitch he helps create space for others by stretching the oppo.

Indeed. He's great at opening up the space for others, he's actually one of my favourite Spurs players.

I don't disagree with that...he's not mata or silva but he can be brilliant at times, even his movement sometimes as in the example i gave before at city...mentality is so important. I honestly think sports psychologists get it wrong some of the time because they try to consciously instill the right mentality. Whereas what they should be doing is dealing with the unconscious because it's there where all our feelings about ourselves really reside...it may sound banal but the happier we feel in ourselves the better we perform. I can wake up everyday and tell myself i'm the best (and i am btw ) but if i have deep rooted issues with my confidence and attitude it won't make any real difference...imagine Jenas with Roy Keanes winning mentality, self belief and big balls...he'd be a world beater...

Maybe I'm just too focussed on the future, but Arsenal not getting CL, losing Van Persie, and slipping back seems a better long term outcome (albeit Chelsea will have won the CL), than Chelsea not getting CL who with their money will simply buy more players regardless. Also, as much as I dislike Chelsea and what they stand for I can't say I dislike them more than Arsenal. Maybe it's where I live, I don't know?

Its totally irrelevent imo to where you live. I used to live 10 minutes from their ground, and I do dislike Arsenal but a lot of my family and friends support them.

I havent met a chelsea fan I actually like, and the minority of their support are knuckle dragging Neanderthals, but the peculiar thing is that the majority dont mind tagging along with their inbred fellow supporters aforementioned.
