I'd have to politely disagree. For al the hype for which much is premature, I still believe if the appropriate personnel were selected, we would have individually the best XI in the group, very tight with Italy but far superior to Uruguay.

I just don't trust Hodgson to make the right selections though.

I think Italy have more talent. Agree that we should be beating Uruguay, even if they have Cavani and Suarez.

Would have been nice if Ghana were in our group if only to see what they would have done to Suarez after the last World Cup.

Few big end of season Premiership special tackles on Suarez wouldn't go amiss.

If I had control I'd sack Hodgson now or tell him to change his approach. He has to approach this WC with fresh ideas.

I love the idea of a midfield 3 involving Wilshere and Barkley but I also like Rooney in behind Sturridge in a 4-2-3-1

For me there's no place for the old guard.

Shearer just put a front six of

Gerrard Carrick Wilshire
Townsend Sturridge Rooney
Quite balanced and Barkley can come on and slot in for Wilshire or Gerrard in that line up, i would take Gerrard as his experience is a help for some of our younger players and is looked up to and respected, Lampard shouldn't even make the squad, time to blood Barkley now, thanks Frank but we need to move on.

Hodgson will go the other way and play an experienced midfield, Gerrard/Lampard all the way, predictably stodgy and cautious.

With the prospect of Lampard and Gerrard dragging themselves around in 99% humidity against Italy it's probably just as well it'll be on at 2am.

Ditch the fast tempo pressing game we've used to dominate minnows in qualifying, it's going to be too hot out there to keep going 90mins and most sides will outplay us going head to head. Set-up deep and play on the counter utilising our strength which is a metric fuck ton of small black midgets who like running really fast down the wing. We've got good blood and guts prem defenders to deal with a lot of pressure and the number of crosses resulting from giving up territory. We've got good wing backs who will get forward and support counters. We've got hard working/tenacious midfielders. What we'll have to find is classy quarterback to set the forwards going quickly when we turn the ball over(the opposite of what Spurs do). Step up Carrick, Barry...........Tom Huddlestone???!?? Few big months in the prem for players to prove themselves

Gerrards legs went 2 years ago at the Euro's quite badly, same thing is going to happen, if i see Gerrard and Lampard on the pitch at the same time i will simply switch off and catch up with another group game...
Whilst emailing a stern letter to Mr Dyke.....

How well do you know Uruguay's players though? Apart from the obvious ones I doubt too many people know how good Uruguay's midfield and defence are.

Based on my very limited knowledge of Brazilian climates (i.e. an article on the BBC), we'll be okay weather wise in Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte, but our match in Fortaleza will be an arsehole in terms of heat.

Manaus, not Fortaleza

99% humidity btw :inpain:

I'm pretty happy with that draw. Could have been worse and better than an "easy" draw. Bring it on.

Great draw, really look forward too it. I'd like to think that this "group of death" will inspire England rather than watching them lumber around against minnows.

Lets be honest its a much more interesting group than last time, which was just a horrible experience to watch. Watching England struggle against the likes of Algeria was just cringe worthy.

Its the world cup....would rather see some proper games and against real opposition as opposed to the minnows of the world embarrassing us.
