So Defoe is Harry's boy, and we're going to play Modric off a lone striker.

If it's Harry's boy Defoe it'll never work,

even more nightmarish with lennon and young too

if it's a big striker, what happens to Harry's boy, and I don't like the idea of Modric in the hole anyway

Take it or leave it - i'll leave it thanks :)

If Defoe and Modric are our regular forward two in a lone striker/hole combo thing I will eat as many cyber hats as I can find.

There is no way that Harry will do this, it makes no sense whatsoever.

It makes a little more sense to see modric playing off a 'big striker' in a lone striker/hole combo thing

but it still won't happen (on a regular basis) and I'd eat half of all the available cyber hats available if it does

Both these approaches would be big mistakes and Harry won't be making them

Defoe lone front man in a 4-5-1.

Cant see that happening in a million years.

Only if we can keep the ball on the ground like Barca. But if we could, we'd be a top 4 club by now. Unless we got someone like Gudjohnsen in the hole, and keep Modric on the left and Lennon on the right. Although i prefer the idea of...

but didn't Harry use this formation for Pompey in away games? Leaving Defoe on the bench and Crouch ( i think) upfront?

Doesn't imply Defoe will play the lone role.. Or even that we'll play 4-5-1. .

3-5-2 would be my guess, but i'd think Harry will want to use a few tactics, and get the players changing roles to suit.

Corluka King Woody

Lennon J.Cole

Defoe #9

Possibility.

If "LillyWhite" is a messenger I'm reaching for my pistol.
This is a case of someone claiming to be ITK by putting rumours and press together, he's getting some points right but most wrong.
Why who we try to buy KW Jones,RVN if this were true.
This formation would not work with Defoe upfront and it is not the way Harry Redknapp plays.
Yes he does rate Defoe and I'm guessing, like Lillywhite but I'm not passing it off as ITK,that he may not have signed Keane had JD not been injured.
Not going to happen.

Yes, he did. Sometimes he played 451, and evertime this happened Defoe got benched for Crouch.

No to 4-5-1, no to Modric in the hole and (please) no to Defoe being Harry's 'boy'.

That line-up would get pissed all over by a good physical team.

Madness.

I genuinely believe Dawson would be a more effective lone striker than Defoe would ever be.

This daft notion derives from some hokey non-ITK posted on FTL, the ramifications of which we'd sooner not have cluttering up the ITK thread.

not entirely, it would work perfectly if say berbatov was in the hole,

or even huddlestone (if he worked on his aerial game a bit)

Mods please don't take this as ITK bashing, because it isn't.

But I do wonder how on earth anyone can know what formation Redknapp is planning on playing next season until pre-season/friendlies at the VERY earliest, unless he has told someone his future plans directly, which I doubt.

It is very probably true that the ITK information is correct in suggesting that (a) HR is a big fan of Modric (b) HR is a big fan of Defoe.

But to then deduce from these two facts (neither of which is groundbreaking, tbh) that we are going to play a 4-5-1 with Modric behind Defoe is almost verging on ridiculous. Especially when you consider that HR has played 2 up front for the majority of his career, and that anyone with half a football brain knows that Defoe is perhaps the least well suited to a 4-5-1 out of any striker we either own or have been linked with.
