Well, it also is. We’re in a shocking position with a manager who won’t commit and seemingly can’t coach without being handed ready-made players in every position. But that’s not his fault. That’s how he operates, and very successfully.

The manager is the short-term problem because he’s at the wrong club. And that leads back to one man.
I agree Conte doesn't seem a good fit for us nor us for him. Which manager would be a great fit for us? Some one who will get the best out of the quality we do have, we can surely do better than we are. We need a different type of manager to the big spenders, so what manager would be the best fit?

Sorry, but the thing about 'same players' same results, is hooey.

Since Poch left, we have bought in a lot of new players. Of his era, only Harry, Sonny, Lloris, Davinson, Davies and Dier remain.

Royal
Porro
Persic
Sess
Bentancur
PEH
Sarr
Skippy
Romero
Lenglet
Sarr
Kulu
Richarlison
Reggie
Udogie
Danjuma
Forster

All basically new shiny toys. And if you want to be really fair, you can't really count N'Dombele and Lo Celso and as Poch players, as he barely had any time with them.

There are just too many problematic things happening at the same time. Levy's gross incompetence when it comes to long-term strategy on transfers and coaching. A current coach who is one foot out the door and insists on playing a system that is mind-numbingly boring. The erratic play of our defense. The complete loss of form of Sonny. Three catastrophic injuries to key players inside of one week.

Perfect storm of fuckery at its finest. In short: It's Spurs.

I really just couldn't find any joy today in watching us. It was boring. Predictable. Listless. It's like the team and coaching staff are just phoning it in right now.

Only upside tonight was seeing Sarr and Skippy boss the midfield. They deserve a lot of credit for that.

Really enjoyed Sarr's performance.

Emerson is starting to become a bit of a dominant WB now, isn't beaten easily, hard to take the ball off and he is crossing it early and well.

Skipp was sharp and snappy which helped the team push on.

Perisic just doesn't have the legs and I think Son is suffering cause he tucks in. With a WB who keeps the width Son can focus on that space more.

Having said that, Son's overall play is really really hindering us, he keeps running into blind alleys and has very poor link up play.
Richarlison showed a lot more 'sticking power' as he is resilient and fights for the ball. You know Son will struggle to hang onto it.

We are a mismatch at the moment. Some parts are good, others poor and it shows in the performances.

I definitely agree about the younger players btw, there is something there and we need the next coach to be someone who will capitalise on that.

To be honest, it’s pretty impressive for someone to come on and be as bad as Davies has been in just 10 minutes.
Got to agree. In that period he Skied a 30 yard shot(why shoot from there when you have like 1 goal in 10 years), smashed a cross so hard Flash couldn’t have got to it, threw a throw-in straight to their player which 2 passes later almost led to a Leao goal. Not a bad 10 minutes worhh K.

Without creating much I really don't think we did that badly? Yes they had two clear headers, but their goal was lucky after a quality Forster save.

We just lacked quality in the final third and I do feel we can overturn that.

I'm certainly not unhappy with it. Sarr and Skipp the standouts. They both did very well under the circumstances.
At last a balanced opinion.?
I thought we were the better team in the first half, we bossed the midfield, but didn’t have enough creativity to break down a very stubborn Milan defense. All 3 of their CBS were immense. They got the rub of the green for their goal (Forster has got to be pissed that despite him making 2 saves none of his defenders helped him out) but other than that never gave us any problems in that first half.
Second half they had the edge and missed 2 sitters so we got the rub of the green there.
Overall not a bad result and I’d expect us to beat them at home.
Don’t understand why Conte keeps bring on Richarlison to play on the right. At Everton when Calvert-Lewis played he played on the left and was very effective. Disappointed that Conte doesn’t give him more minute’s especially given Son’s long run of poor form.
Sarr and Skipp were very good in midfield. Emerson and Kane battled well.
Thought the referee was poor. I lost count of the number of times Kjaer fouled Kane in the first half without a card then Dier gets one for a so-so foul.

Also I'm slightly more calm about Forster than I was before the match.
Can’t say I am. On the chance they headed wide he was all over the place. Came out for a ball he had no chance of getting. Doesn’t fill me with confidence.

The funny thing is, Potter was/is the best manager we could've gotten. I don't want to hear about him at chelsea being horrible because imagine having to manage that mess in terms of having no actual say in anything that happens/having no time to actually bed anyone in. Ten Hag... how bad could;'ve his interview actually been? Did he just ask for a transfer kitty to sign and levy was like uhhhhhh no speaka da dutch.

Wake up thoughts: we weren’t terrible. The problem is we didn’t look like being comfortable against a team we’re clearly better than, which has been the story of the season. I don’t think anyone could argue the team is fulfilling its potential: it’s less than the sum of his parts. If we improve even 10% we win the second leg. Hopefully the home crowd can push us on, because if we don’t it could be concerning.

For all the doom and gloom there’s clearly some good here. Sarr’s immense. Skipp’s reliable. Udogie, Spence and Bryan getting gametime can only be good.

Slightly snidey comment: since sacking Poch to appoint winners, the only team we’ve eliminated in European knockouts is Wolfsberger. Haven’t scored in the CL knockouts since.

Pat Nevin from Five Live on Skipp and Sarr:

"Skipp was very neat and tidy, he did all the sensible things, not trying to overdo it - but Sarr really caught the eye, he was everywhere," said former Scotland winger Pat Nevin on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"His energy was great, his utter confidence and arrogance on the ball - he was playing some World Cup 40, 50-yard balls across the pitch and they were coming off.

"It is not normal, it is a young player coming in who is fourth or fifth choice [who stands out]. He was given an unexpected chance and was probably Spurs best player on the night - the manager will be delighted as well."

Jenas:

"Eyeballs were on them. They stood tall and were the positives that came out of tonight.

"Sarr in particular, his passing, how aggressive he was in midfield, Skipp in his first Champions League experience on such a stage, it was a real positive for Antonio Conte to say he can rely on them. Big tackles, getting back, breaking up interceptions, it was good to see."

The unfortunate thing is one of them will likely miss out now that PEH has served his ban.

Based on the fact Milan are a bang average team.

Based on the fact that we will have home advantage.

Based on the fact despite us not being brilliant currently, we should still have far too much for them in the 2nd leg.

We were average tonight, it was two average teams up against each other.

We will be better at home which is why I believe we will get the job done.
The only way we'll be better, is if Conte uses our next games to bed in Sarr, Skipp, Porro and Richy. Otherwise, why would the outcome be any different? Apart from a change of formation, of course, but we know that won't happen.

I think there is some underestimation of what an impact Son's poor form has really had on the team this season. I love the guy but sticking with him is costing us.

We've lost a world class golden Boot winning winger and this season it feels like we're playing with 10 men at times such is the fall off.

Sure the defence is unreliable and needs addressing but we also need to make a decision on what to do with son as he's currently a liability where previously he was a gem. The son of last season would have turned many of our losses this year into points gained.

A stint on the bench seems the first option but persisting with him and hoping he regains form is hurting us.

So before the match many on here were saying they weren’t going to watch because it was certain we would lose. Now a lot of the same people are complaining that it’s a disgrace that we didn’t win. Make it make sense.

I'm looking forward to seeing Sarr.
I think he will surprise alot ,this could be the game to elevate him, he's been really good in training.

Davies ain't starting, so don't stress,
Well stress cos lenglet ain't better imo.

Sarr didn't disappoint
I've been told, like I said, that he's been impressing in training for a while now.

You could write a pretty lengthy book on the times in Europe we have lost to weaker opposition than us. I agree with your statements but in reality there aren't many teams I trust us to beat playing how we currently are.

Controlled a lot of the midfield but let down by a sloppy defensive mistake and a lack of creativity in the final third to create chances.

Not the first time I've said that this season and it certainly won't be the last...

I know there’s a lot of negativity at the moment but I am now looking beyond all of this and looking forward to see Sarr excel further with us and Udogie on the left next season. I’ll be at the Lane in three weeks time for the second leg and we are still in this. Not as bad as it could’ve been last night and cannot be bothered to get annoyed anymore. Yep, unlikely we will come out all guns blazing but I will be behind the goal at the Park Lane end signing and cheering them on. Don’t get me wrong this football is tiresome but the sick bit of me is looking forward to the return leg.
