If Orban is £20-30m and then we put the rest on this guy that is the Kane money gone but a good striker and CB for the future isn’t a bad deal. This guy does seem like a superstar CB, be certainly an interesting signing.
Personally if that is how it plays out I think our attacking line won’t be strong enough. Kane is far and away our best player and his loss will be felt greatly. As exciting a prospect as Orban is he is still extremely raw. Personally if we are loosing a world class forward we should be looking to bring in another very talented attacker to replace him who will be able to hit the ground running to some degree. Those don’t come cheap.

Now obviously Silva looks to be an extremely talented young defender and obviously it would be great to have him but after spending €47/50 mil on VDV and with Romero do we really need to be spending what I would expect to be near €60 mil if not a good bit more on a third defender. It’s a tricky one as our defence has obviously needed strengthening for a while and with VDV, Romero and Silva we would have incredible options but especially without European football we would need to bench one of them.

I guess there is the argument that VDV could fill in a lot at LB (although for me he is still lacking the ball playing ability to comfortably invert and sit in CM) and Romero obviously has injury issues. But even so, considering the big loss of Harry I do wonder if it wouldn’t be better to go big on an attack and then bring in a cheaper defender with promise.

As I said, Silva looks to be a fantastic player and I certainly would be happy to have him in our ranks. Maybe we think this is our only chance to get him and I can see that making a lot of sense. It’s just hard to ignore the gaping hole Kane will be leaving.

Having two bruisers at the back could be a gift and a curse but I'm all for it!

Apparently has a €100M release clause in the contract he signed last year, which runs until 2027. Yeah can't see this one getting off the ground.

I would be totally shocked if this happened.

This is not a Tottenham style signing. Benfica always demand over the odds and Rui Braz is just as tough as Levy.

I guess the question is, where does Romero fit?
I trust Ange to find a way to utilise all these guys. Its his job to have this headache and what a good headache it would be to have.

Unless we go full on Pep and play all the CBs at the back 😅

Benfica's youth academy really is something else
Helps that they actually play their kids from a very young age though. Nailed on that guys like Devine, Scarlett and probably even Dorrington would have got some decent minutes in the league if they were with them. They're guaranteed at least top three every year so a down year can be afforded and they still get Europe. You play the kids in the league at spurs and they don't perform immediately then you're in deep shit that season.

Don’t get me wrong he looks an insane talent but I don’t think we’d be bringing him in to the right environment. Romero is our most experienced competent CB and he’s not a leader or organiser really. I think we need a nailed on fairly experienced first teamer like Tapsoba.

It’s a no brainer on top of Tapsoba with a loan back to Benfica though.
I find it hard to believe we'd spend this kind of money then lend him back.

I had the same thought. I always was under the impression that Sporting was as good but it feels like there’s a tremendous gap in recent memory.

Purely speculative but I’m curious if this kid learned his composure from being exposed to Ruben Dias or Vertonghen. He seems so calm on the pitch.

I guess I'm right in saying that you don't have to pay the release clause, it is possible to negotiate a different fee.

I get the post Kane anxiety in the attacking department but I think our insurance policy besides Richy is that Son can shine as a central striker.

And the silver lining would be it allows us to balance our wing play with a more technical two way dribbler as per Ange's system.

I think we'll make chances galore.

We've taken giant leaps forward in our technical quality in CM, AM, FB, and WF positions.

I also honestly feel we've got two of the most promising CBs around. Long term this looks great.

But in the immediate term I'm still worried about our defensive stability, especially until Bentancur is back.

We still need a starting quality CB and DM to begin the season, or the wheels could come off the post Kane era very quickly.

I doubt Silva is that - so I'd rather we go big on Laporte or any suitable player between 25-32 ideally with PL experience.

I feel that's top priority, then decide on Hojbjerg / DM, then any outstanding versatile wide forward.

People need to stop worrying about the forward line if Kane goes. Richi capable of scoring 15 if playing week in week out. He got 1 last season. Son had a very poor season by his standard. If he scores 5 more than the 10 he got last season. Kulu should be in this new attacking system getting 8-10 goals. Coupled with maddison and potentially GLC chipping in with 15-20 between them it will more than make up for Kane going. Arsenal had a title charge with a CF who hardly scored. Sort the defense out and let in 25-30 left even if we score 10-15 less we will see a massive improvement in results.
