he'd be used as a back up striker, not an AM, he'd replace LLorette in our squad

He doesn't play as striker for united. He plays a flexible role behind Lukaku and switches across the AM.

I think he would displace any of our AM players barring Eriksen.

we're not united

But he plays as an AM. Can be used in the striker role. He is way too good to be a "Back up player". He is an ideal signing for his versatility and wpuld feature mostly as an AM. Adding some tactical flexibility. So if he were signed, I seriously doubt it would be to warm the bench as a back up to Kane. Although I concede he would be that too. Similar to Son in that respect.

Tbh although I've stated Malcom would be better for the balance of the squad ie being left footed I would love to see Martial in a Spurs attack.

I just can't see it happening United selling to us. Have we ever bought a player from them before?

I agree about him being too good as a back up, my understanding he was originally able to play both positions but Maureen wont play him as striker, because Lukaku, wheres as we wanted him as a back up striker

Look at Kane's form now, he looks like he is done, we really needed to rotate him more to get the best out of him and Son is not a striker. I dont think Poch has the confidence in Llorente to play him more often so I think some one with Martial's ability is exactly what we need.

Kane is a freak people bang on about his form but he is still winning games for us.

Martial would be competing for a position in a three behind Kane or as part of a 433.

I would love us to get a quick lefty that has a football brain dear I say a Salah type to really move us on.

DO we even have room for him? Son, Lamela, Eriksen, Dele and Lucas means we have loads of options out wide, cant see us selling any one of those so I don’t see how he fits in

Giving Son’s inconsistency issues I’m sure Martial would get plenty of game time if he came to us... (as well as providing cover for Kane up top).

So where does that leave Lucas? He can barely get a game as it is.

Martial plays primarily off the left and as a No. 9, Lucas mostly plays off the right. Martial wouldn't be competing directly against Lucas, though he would be against Son.

I've been encouraged by Lucas's cameos and am hopeful that his lack of playing time is down to Poch not having faith that he's fully come to grips with the ins and outs of the system rather than not rating him. We've seen time and again that new signings tend to take a while and need a preseason with Poch to settle in, I think he'll have a role to play next season regardless of whether we get Martial.

Not in any way disregarding the ITK but Bayern are typically very shrewd operators in the transfer market and don't pay massive fees for players. Their record transfer (Tolisso at £37.35m) is less than ours. I don't see them as a very likely landing spot for a player that United are reportedly demanding nearly £80m for.

Then again I also don't see us as a possible landing spot for an £80m player either.

You're right regarding Bayern but there's no way anyone is paying 80m for him. The final fee will be well within Bayern's price range I imagine.

If that was true Lucas would have got more game time

On the bench with Lukaku not playing either. They're playing Sanchez and Lingard up top so both Martial and Rashford on the bench.

One thing against him is that the players at Man Utd were on camera joking about him always being miserable and complaining. Doesn’t sound like the kind of character Poch likes.

We'll throw a little Sonshine at him and cheer him right up.

(To be honest if I had to sit on the bench and watch Phil Jones play 40 weeks a year I'd be rather pissy too)

I think he strikes me as a serious focused character rather than a joker.
