Are we only 2 strikers away from a title tilt?

Me too. Great player. He's better than Young in my opinion.

Nzogbia would be a great option instead of Lennon on the right. But like someone mentioned earlier he known to have a bad attitude so probably wouldn't accept being a squad player.

I would in honesty sign four new strikers. It's drastic and almost certainly doomed to failure but there are actually now quite a few exciting options out there and to give the likes of Falcao the best chance of success I believe that we shouldn't be afraid to develop a proper "striekforce" as opposed to crowbar-ing in a couple of signings into the existing underperforming unit.

Besides, if we spent 30m on Rossi or Falcao they might end up catching Shititis from the current bunch of clowns.

Which four would I buy? At present (and this changes on a daily basis), probably:

Falcao
Vucinic
Sturridge
Bellamy

Next season we'll have 60+ games so with injuries and suspensions it really wouldn't be all that hard to 'keep them happy' (God forbid they try to do that for us) as long as they were rotated well.

I'd happily replace all our strikers, but we only need three, and Sturridge won't happen, Chelsea are very happy with him and Bellamy isn't good enough.

I would look to pick up Steven Fletcher from Wolves if they went down as our third choice striker.

I think there are better options in Odemwingie and Rodallega in the prem at the moment. Can't see any of them being targets though.

Definitely a GK to replace Gomes who, in my opinion, cost us 4th this year. Been impressed with Henessey at Wolves this year, maybe a couple of million plus O'Hara.

Two centre forwards a must. I think Harry would get Adebayor motivated, make him feel loved, and you have a hell of a player. Lukaku as his apprentice.

Marko Marin to come in and give us a dribbler to unlock the packed defences that we will face at WHL next year.

Gomes to blame for not getting 4th? Do me a favour. The reason we didn't get fourth was our lack of strikers.

Given, Adebayor, Bellamy.

Given isn't better than Gomes, and Bellamy isn't good enough either.

Given maybe...Bellamy is quality.

I'm with nidge, he was a decent player, but hasn't been outstanding in the Championship this season, and would be a risk now.

I think we need 2 good players for every position to challenge for the title and I think we are short in a number of areas. Assuming we will play 4-5-1/4-3-3 next season then:

(Assuming Hutton, Woodgate, Bassong, Kranjcar, Keane, Bentley and Jenas are leaving)

GK: Gomes, Cudicini (unsure)
RB: Corluka, Walker (unsure)
LB: Ekotto, Rose (strong)
CB: Dawson, Gallas, Kaboul, King (strong)
RM: Lennon (no backup)
LM: Bale, Pienaar (strong)
DM: Sandro, Palacios (improve backup)
CM: Modric, Huddlestone (strong)
AM: Van der Vaart (no backup)
FD: Defoe, Crouch, Pavlyuchenko (weak)

There are question marks over right-back and goalkeeper, a need for backup improvement or addition at right-midfield, attacking midfield and defensive midfield and a complete overhaul of our strike force. It may not be possible to improve all of these things and perhaps some do not need any improvement because players will develop but to me that suggests we are a minimum of 4 or 5 players short of a title tilt.

We need a minimum of 2 new strikers, some better backup quality in central and right midfield and possibly a right-back or a new goalkeeper (but I am unsure about the latter two).

I think Flecther from Wolves is a great shout. I've thought he has been one of those bubbling under players for a while now. I like the look of Sturridge but lets face it he's better than Kalou at Chelsea so I can't see him moving away from there.

What about Jelavic whose up at Rangers. He took a while to adjust up there but has finished very strong, scored some really good goals over the last few weeks, and has made Kyle Laverty look good with some on a plate assists. I completley get the old argument that the SPL is basically terrible but there are some good players up there. Jelavic ticks that box for me.

I thought about Jelavic as well. Good points about SPL, but he could be a decent shout. Doubt we'll go for him though.

I'd buy 2 number 9s - 1 to lead the line, the other (a young player) to understudy him.

I'd then buy someone who could play up in a 4-4-2, but also as one of the 3 in a 4-2-3-1 (along with 2 others of vdV, Lennon and Bale).

My 3 dream signings (as per sig) would be Falcao, Rossi and Leandro. So teams around that (assuming Leandro would be on the bench unless Falcao was injured) would be:

----------------Modric-----Sandro/Hudd

Rossi/vdV/Lennon----vdV/Rossi-----Bale

-----------------------Falcao

or

Lennon/vdV--Modric--Sandro/Hudd--Bale

-----------Rossi/vdV-----Falcao

Dan, I'm starting to see you as the Latin SpursKing

A few weeks ago I thought 2 strikers Vucinic and Loic Remy was really all we needed to be a top 4 team next season but I would be happier with 3.
I considered keeping Defoe but to be honest I would prefer Demba Ba as a back up striker.
I believe that would be enough to see us through to January and then make a call on any other areas that may need strengthened.

Have said it in a few threads, but I believe we have over half of a championship winning team: Benny, Bale, Sandro, Luka, Rafa - If we can keep King fit, that is 6. If a little confidence can be instilled in Gomes and he can be the Gomes of last season, we have 7 players there.

If King is fit, personally I'd be happy with either Daws or Gallas alongside him - that is 8.

We need a star striker - someone with an aura about him that simply makes things happen and takes his chances. RB is a question mark for me and I'd also look for another option on the right as I believe we are far too open playing two wingers - I know others dont agree, just my opinion.

I agree with this. Although I think we can cope at RB with the options we have next season, as one of Corluka, Walker or Kaboul can make that spot their own.

The striking situation has taken away from the fact that we aren't completely solid at the back, so just adding a couple of strikers to what we have wouldn't have resulted in a title this year - top four yes, not a title. If we are to genuinely challenge for the title, we need more than a couple of strikers, so I'm looking at the bigger picture, there are more areas of the team we can improve on, not just up front.

We have been ok at the back, it's just we haven't had the goals to negate the ones that we let in. Madrid was the only hammering we had all season, all other games had only 1 or 2 goals in it.

Last season we let in a total of 41 goals in the prem, so far this season it has been 45 goals, so there's not much in it.

However we are currently 14 prem goals of our tally for last season, which is basically one properly functioning striker.

While I dont want any West Ham players your rants against Harry are getting tiresome, and I would love to see you do better Dan, if you were in charge we wouldnt even have a team beacuse you would make a 100% foreign squad and we wouldnt be able to play because we had failed to meet the quota for home-grown players.

Actually there isn't a quota for home grown-players, it's a quota for maximum number of foreign players. You could play a team full of foreigners as long as your squad size doesn't exceed 17.

Listen, even Stevie Wonder can see that our strikers have been rubbish this year, but I still think we would have got fourth even so. Gomes has made to many calamitous errors at key moments, in big games this season. Arguably we have have got a two more points against Chelsea had he not palmed Drogba's tenuous strike into the net, and I think we would have got something at Stamford Bridge too. 5 more points against Chelsea would have been massive.

Add what players you want, under Harry, we won't be winning any leagues.

Oh no? Under Ramos we'd be winning the league are you implying?

Harry may not be the best manager but he's the best since Jol, probably better than him now.

The problem with Harry is his ability to rotate players, and maybe the subs he put on are questionable. But don't take anything away from what he's done.

Took us out of relegation to 8th in his first half of the season. Second season we took 4th. 1/4 finals in CL. Dominated games against Top 4, and never looked like we're going to lose. Win against Arsenal away since yonks back. Win against Liverpool away since yonks back AGAIN. Beat Chelsea like 3 times since taking over. Decent signings, no worse than good. We made City play like kids but again strikers let our team effort down.

So yeah, Harry is pretty useless, does nothing but to break records.

If it weren't for our strikers and many stupid mistakes from Gomes, we'd be in Arsenal's position.

The "world-class CB" you're all talking about?

We're going for Rio Ferdinand. We will be bidding for him in the summer, whether we get him or not is a different matter - personally I think we won't, but we will try for sure... it all depends on if Man U can get a replacement that they trust.
