What's new

As Walker is under 21, should he stay?

Given the new rules re 25 man squad, i believe I'm right in saying Kyle doesn't have to count as part of the 25, because he's under age

I, and others, think he looks good enough now to be decent cover as CB (better than corluka for one, for me)

would it better for us, given woody's demise and king's ongoing problems to keep walker at the club rather than loan him out again?

my feeling is i'd rather he stayed - and we didn't spend our limited resources on another CB

dawson walker kaboul bassong, plus king when fit and hudd if needed (i think hudd could do a good job in some euro games) would that be enough?

i might be way wrong here, and that we do need another experienced CB

if harry and danny think we do, i'll certainly go along with that call no question

but walker was bought for the future - has the future now arrived for him at spurs?

Yeah I like what i've seen. He's still young so will make mistakes, but I like that he has the pace to help him recover from them. I actually prefer we stick with him than persue Richards now. I know they're only pre-season games, but he has shown real potential in those games.

I thought he was excellent against Pompey in his debut last season too, he got to the byline and pulled the ball back intelligently rather than thrashing the cross in. Sunderland away his inexperience showed, but then the whole back line was a mess that day.

I'm not sure if he's tall enough tbh. He's the same height as Cannavaro, but the Premier League is different.

Wasn't Perry nicknamed the Rash cos he's mark plays so close?

i'd like to see Walker given a few appearances even if its just 5 minutes in games we're 2-0 up

Walker is the better of the Kyles IMO. He was great at Northampton and then when he went back to Sheffield United he pushed Naughton to left back.

I always assumed it was because a) he was irritating to see on the team sheet (like seeing a rash on your arse) and b) he made rash decisions

Yes.
As he isn't part of the 25, we won't be risking too much...he he flops we still have the 25.
But I don't think he will flop. Think this boy could make it. And primarily as back-up for Corluka. Sell Hutton, buy no-one, Lennon/Corluka & Bentley/Walker.

Chris Perry is nowhere near the list of worst CBs to have played for us in the last 25 years, he wasn't top quality but he used to put in some great last ditch tackles.

Perry was probably as good as he could be his height considering.
Read the game well, good timing in the air, great man marker.

Dean Richards was an excellent centre back at his best,
but he played for us with both head and back problems.
Turning in some performances that have stained his reputation.

What mostly pissed me off about Perry was whenever the ball was hoofed forwards (total football being alive and well in 1990s Tottenham), he would just whack it out of play when there was no need and not keep the ball and play it.

My two main memories of Deano are the debut goal against United and falling over trying to defend against Fulham.
